The lion didn’t want any competition for food.
Should have hit it. Cat may go after someone else
Pretty lucky hunter, ordinarily I'd think bullets miss inches above a predator's head, as opposed to hit it.
So, where was his rifle?
Very cool video.
There’s a Gary Larson Far Side cartoon in here somewhere...

I have no TV, I gave up watching, it was worthless dead time. Now we have video on all our devices. The tyranny of the urgent never ceases to demand our time....
Moron should have worn a GoPro if he wanted video so badly. For folks too cheap to get a GoPro, you can get a head mount for your spare cellphone.
It was worth it though, to protect his hunt. People don’t realize how delicious Elk is. Joe Rogan swears by it. It is arguably the best tasting meat out there. I made Elk chili a while back, and ate the entire Crock Pot of it over 3 days.
If you ever find yourself in that situation and you are foolishly unarmed because you listened to Rats or RINOs when it comes to 2nd amendment unconstitutional infringement,
1. Drop everything you have especially if it contains food. Very similar to dealing with the ferals in any democrap run city, drop it all.
2. Always face the mountain lion and NEVER run. If you have on a jacket, take it off and open it, use it to make yourself look bigger and be LOUD vocally.
3. If possible pick up rocks but do it fast, never crouch down if you can help it. Throw rocks at the feral.
4. If it still follows you, as a LAST RESORT...This is very VERY VERY important..As a LAST resort play Taylor Swift “music”. The sonic torture will be immense, your brain could explode from the torture, but you will be free of the creature at last guaranteed.
Sounds to me like he missed...
Considering the behavior, my guess is he got too close to a momma with little ones
Grew up out west in the mountains and had a few encounters.
Cool critters, much respect.
Also he's pushing the gun at the cat while shooting. Pitiful technique. Probably no idea where he was backing up. Could have fallen and been dinner.
Anyone interested do read ‘the Princess and the Puma’ an O’Henry short story.
FReepers wishing to avoid a trip through msnland, and all that implies, can find the original article posted here:

The video is there also.
His mistake was backing up. That encouraged the cat. He should have charged while screaming. That would have broke off the attack without having to fire.
A couple local hunters were headed up Scout mountain from the parking lot at 6600 ft. The summit is over 8500 ft. About halfway up, one of the guys pissed on a tree. Almost immediately a mountain lion began stalking them. They headed back to the parking lot with the stalking cat following them all the way to the lot.
My wife and I took the same hike from that parking lot with the intent to reach the summit. We were about 1/4 mile from the summit when a huge thunderstorm started. It was a rapid run downhill to the car with lightning strikes nearby.
My bullets would have been in its brain. 😉
