It's A Sham Eh?
The Market Ticker - Cancelled ® ^ | 09/30/2022 | Karl Denninger

Posted on 09/30/2022 7:15:18 PM PDT by Skywise

It was a SHAM REFERENDUM! the media screams.

Do recall that Zelinskyy declared that if you voted in these "shams" that was to be considered a criminal offense punishable by imprisonment.

This, of course, has been "memory-holed" all over the Internet -- but was reported at the time.

Do remember that the Government of Ukraine has done this before. Specifically, they refused the right of the people to decide in 2014, which was also reported, this after the Ukraine government itself was deposed in a literal coup complete with shooting the people who didn't like the way things were going after the United States, along with others, put their very-large thumb on the scale in deposing Yanukovych.

sn't it funny how a national government can be literally overthrown in a violent coup openly fomented by our government, including sitting Senators, and when the people who live in said land say screw you! to that the government then turns around and say "you have no choice, slave!" and declares their intent to walk off on a peaceful basis illegal?

Oh, that wasn't the first time either. Let's go back and remember all the fun and games with regards to Crimea generally, a piece of land purchased by Catherine The Great (of Russia) and thus unmistakably property paid for consensually at the time of said transfer.

In the 1950s, following a bunch of civil unrest and the area becoming basically ungovernable Kruschev allowed Crimea's governance to be part of a "special administrative area", otherwise known as Ukraine. Said now-nation (Ukraine) declared itself independent in 1990, which of course violated Russian sovereignty and pre-dated The Wall coming down and formal dissolution of the USSR. By what right did Ukraine do this, and if they had the right to do so and leave Russia then so does any part of Ukraine have the right to do so now. In other words either Ukraine itself is illegitimate or these regions have every right to do what Ukraine did.

One year later, post Ukraine declaring itself "not part of the USSR" Crimea held a referendum which passed with 94% support to rejoin what was then the USSR, and declared independence. Mere months later the Parliament of Crimea, without consent of the people, revoked that.

The next year Crimea reversed that decision and drafted its own constitution. Ukraine refused to recognize it even though just a year prior it was all to the good. Uh huh. Oh yeah, that was repeated via a second referendum in 1994 which Ukraine also refused to recognize.

A year later Ukraine dissolved the Crimean Parliament and, by pure decree, also dissolved the post of "President" there as well.

This is just a sample; it didn't end there, and in fact kept on right up until 2014 when the entire Government of Ukraine was illegally overthrown in a violent coup. That, standing alone, should have ended the question as to whether Crimea (never mind the other Russian-affiliated portions of the eastern part of the nation) had any sort of sovereign ties to Ukraine proper. Either the 2014 actions which the US fomented were invalid and everyone involved in them and the succession of power since, including Zelinskyy should be brought up on international charges and hanged or it is beyond question that as of 2014 those "breakaway" portions of the nation had and continue to have every right to walk off because the government to which they acceded on an alleged "voluntary" basis even if you originally accept it was voluntary despite reasonable doubt it was, no longer existed as of 2014.

Those regions held a Referenda in 2015 (I believe around that year) and Russia opted to not allow them to join then. Don’t ask me why, I don’t know.

For all those that think this is peachy

Should we now let the south secede?

Should we let the west coast vote to leave?

My response is if they want to leave, they can leave, but we’re keeping the land.

the point is - what makes it ‘legal’?

When the US enforced their coup?

Or when Putin enforced his?

An important point not mentioned much is those sections that are now legally Russian territories again are also mostly Russian-Speaking.

One thing I find quite amusing is the left has been using weaponized lawfare against the American people for years now. J6 is a perfect example followed by all the illegal raids by the DOJ/FBI.

Now lawfare was used against the Uniparty/Ukraine/NATO to benefit Russia.

The burn of karma can be a real bish sometimes.

US and NATO let had no problems issuing a fake referendum in Serbia and splitting it apart to create Kosovo via force of arms, which Russia warned the US/NATO/UN could quite possibly come back to haunt them.

All of a sudden, you and others up in arms?

Hypocrite much US/NATO/UN.

International law and the rule of law is an utter joke.
And has been repeatedly shown to be an utter joke by the US.

And no, Ukraine will NEVER again keep the land of those 4 regions that have now voted TWICE to join Russia. Poof. Gone. Forever.

In Russia you don’t vote for Putin.
Putin votes for you.

And yet we kicked the brits out and annexed Hawaii.
If Russia does anything similar, who are we to judge?

That is so untrue. Videos all over other social media and tons of international observers from all over the world make your post a stealing pile of lies.

I’ve been to Ireland many times.

Very few Irish people speak Gaelic but almost all speak English. Don’t make the mistake thinking their language makes them want to be part of the UK again.

Should we now let the south secede?

We take care of our own country, let them take care of theirs. Not our fight.

Agreed. Referendums or not, this is not our fight. It is Deep State/Nato/WEF vs. Russia, China and other BRICS nations.

Let our government fight their own fight, leave the American people out of this.

If it’s so damn important the elites can send their own kids to fight.

It’s a memory thing for the war-mongers.
They can’t recall anything beyond what happened a year to nine months ago—no precedent, no history, just a perpetual present. They can’t even remember who their enemies are.
Like Biden.

It’s a sham, Karl.

Some 5,500 Russians are now surrounded in the area of Lyman. If none of them escape, they will all be killed or captured in the Donetsk Oblast now claimed as Russian soil by the Russians.

No.

If the People’s Republic of CA wants to go, let it.
If Texas wants to go, let it.

Feds should have zero power over that process. Only negotiating for how Federal assets in said state are dealt with.

You need to remember the consent of the 13 states was required to form the Fedzilla. Fedzilla did not create the 13 states. Just because Fedzilla has gnawed away at state’s power over the course of 250ish years does not mean it was correct or in the right to do so.
