German citizens are suing their government over its failure to bring down air pollution levels to limits recommended by the world’s leading scientists.
The seven claimants, supported by environmental organizations ClientEarth and Deutsche Umwelthilfe [German Environment Help], last week launched the case in the Federal Administrative Court — Germany’s highest court.
They argue German law breaches their fundamental rights, since it allows air pollution levels to be four to five times higher than those the World Health Organization (WHO) deems acceptable.
“Air pollution may not often be named the official cause of death, but it claims lives — and causes long-term diseases, including cancer, heart problems, shortness of breath and strokes,” said one of the claimants from Munich, who suffers from asthma. “I am now suing for my right to breathe clean and healthy air.”
The claimants all come from the country’s four most-polluted cities: Berlin, Düsseldorf, Munich and Frankfurt. …

23 Sept: MSN: Daily Mail: Australia violated human rights of Torres Strait Islanders to protect against climate change: UN
by Cassandra Morgan and John Kidman, Australian Associated Press
The United Nations has ruled Australia failed to protect Torres Strait Islanders against the impacts of climate change and thus violated their right to enjoy their culture.
The decision, by the UN’s human rights committee, follows a 2019 complaint by eight Australian nationals and six of their children from four small, low-lying islands...
The committee said despite Australia’s construction of new seawalls on the four islands expected to be completed by 2023, additional measures were required.
The UN has asked Australia to compensate the Islanders for harm suffered, consult to assess their needs and take measures to continue to secure the communities’ safe existence...
The Climate Council (Australia) welcomed the ruling, with director of research Dr Simon Bradshaw saying the loss and damage experienced by Torres Islanders ‘epitomises the injustice at the the heart of the climate crisis’...
‘The Australian government must do everything it can to limit future harms by ensuring Australia’s emissions plummet this decade, leaving fossil fuels in the ground and providing far greater support to communities in the Torres Strait with adapting to the impacts of climate change.’...

Burning American wood for heat this winter should fix that.
It is to laugh.
After the first real cold snap, these operations will get shut down and their leaders jailed. To put it another way, Germans will become Germans again.
By who... China, India?
And yet, they were driving - cars.
Sudden uptick in those thing? Must be climate change.
Gee, somehow with winter just around the corner, I hope they win 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
