Before Donald Trump descended the golden escalator at Trump tower in June 2015, the GOP had gone more than a quarter-century without a rock star. Now, it has two, and that is the challenge.
Fresh from his deft Martha’s Vineyard gambit, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis flew into Kansas on Sunday to rally support for Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt, now running for governor against incumbent Democrat Laura Kelly.
Saul Alinsky, the acknowledged master of forcing poseurs to honor their own policies, could not have done better than DeSantis. No political stroke in memory has succeeded in exposing liberal hypocrisy quite so effortlessly and effectively. Had the Islanders taken the 50 illegal aliens in, they might have checked DeSantis’s move and saved a little face, but they didn’t. They lived up to their most ludicrous stereotypes, calling in the National Guard and deporting the hapless Venezuelans to some sterile Army base on the mainland. It will be years before “Martha’s Vineyard” is anything but a template for a meme or a punch line to a joke.
Both Schmidt and U.S. Senator Roger Marshall had fun with Martha’s Vineyard in the speeches they gave preceding DeSantis’s. The SRO crowd at the Olathe (O-lay-the) Civics Center ate it up. When DeSantis took center stage, the thousands in attendance were primed. They surged to their feet and roared their appreciation. If it wasn’t clear before this past week, it was clear to everyone in Olathe. Ron DeSantis has arrived.
SNIP
That said, he did not mention Trump in his speech. Schmidt has also been tagged as something of a moderate, but one would not have guessed that from his intense and impressively disciplined speech. He did not mention Trump either.

There were many reasons why I supported Trump in 2016 after I refused to vote for any Republican presidential candidates after 2000. Here are three in particular:
1. I don't trust career politicians.
2. I don't trust lawyers in public office.
3. I don't trust globalists.
DeSantis fails on all three counts. Choose your nominee wisely. I am not a Republican, so I feel no obligation to support a candidate just because a bunch of Beltway @ssholes want to peddle him to me as the greatest public official since George Washington.
Anyone who blames Trump for a Chinese bioweapon, purposefully unleashed as an Act of War by the Chinese Communist Party and the PLA, deserves everything that they get. Sorry not sorry.
We need thousands and each assigned tasks to do.
There is plenty to do outside of running for President.
Trump is the exact one who strongly advised me to take the “Chinese bioweapon, purposefully unleashed as an Act of War by the Chinese Communist Party and the PLA” as you called it. And not only did he take it himself, he claims he’s taken 3 additional boosters and is still pushing it on others. So what does that make HIM, oh genius?
I was in the same crowd that Trump advised to take the clot shot. I didn't take it, I will not take it. I guess I'm just part of the dying breed. I think for myself. In my 62 years I have taken plenty of opportunity to tell several bosses to KMA, some subtle, some not so much. I have not once in my life remained employed by someone who thought they were my personal dictator. You want a job done, call me and that job will get done. I'll be damned if some yahoo that signs a paycheck is going to dictate my health choices. It isn't going to happen. I am sorry that so many got caught up in that trap, truly, but you all had a choice to make and you made it. You had the same dire warnings and the same info the rest of US had.
That’s all well and good, and congratulations to you for being independent enough to NOT do what your hero Trump wants.
But many of you sound as if you’re actually HAPPY that some of us were injured by the vaccines, simply because we no longer support Trump over the issue, as support of Trump apparently the highest priority in your minds. Even if encouraging people to support Trump means they might listen to him and take the vaccine, and suffer for it.
So if you’re going to support Trump, maybe you should have a caveat attached saying “I support Trump, but whatever you do, DO NOT take his advice on vaccines, as you might die from it.” Unless of course support for Trump is the end all be all and nothing else matters, as many of you act. Thanks.
I pretty much agree with your observation. My biggest problem with RDS (and many other politicians) is that he never really had a private sector job. It is in the private sector that you really feel the impact of idiotic government regulations. RDS may claim to understand, but I don’t think someone can truly understand unless they ran a business and had to deal with all of the issues that are obstacles to success and are constantly pushing your business toward bankruptcy.
The Chinese bioweapon is COVID-19, if I actually have to explain that.
If you 'took' COVID-19 purposefully, I can't help you.
You had a choice to not take any vaccine; and by parsing your bare grammar, you were just not prepared to sustain your quality of life for a sufficient period to replace yer jerb. Your bad, buddy. Trump didn't do shit to you.
Good grief man. I don't have any Hero's in this life.
Yes he did, he strongly encouraged me and everyone to take the vaccine, which was one of the main factors in my decision to take it. Countless others took it on his advice as well.
Maybe Trump had bad information at the time, but the fact he is STILL supporting the vaccines, despite all the information that has come out showing how dangerous and ineffective they are, is inexcusable. Your indifference regarding all the carnage Trump's continued support of the vaccine has caused is certainly questionable as well. Good day.
Agree that is an issue.
And after DeSantis crushes Crist by 8+ points in November, he's going to have a winner's momentum and everyone in his political circle will be telling him to strike while the iron is hot and run. Everyone.
Is anybody telling Trump to run? Does he even have a political circle anymore since everyone that used to be in his circle have since turned on him?
Everyone, except his kids, that is and today he's got his son-in-law, HIS FORMER SENIOR ADVISOR, running around telling the press that he's "troubled" by DeSantis shipping illegals to sanctuary cities.
Is that how Trump plans on winning over DeSantis' supporters? By criticizing DeSantis' awesome victories doing the stuff that Trump himself should've done when he was president?
BS. If Desantis goes against Trump 1. It will ruin Desantis’s carrer. 2. He will lose badly and 3. I will never vote for Desantis - EVER.
You've outed yourself, your posts show you're as close to a never Trumper as possible. Irrationally so.
Congrats. Don't bother responding. You won't get anything back. There is no worth in responding to deranged anti-Trumpers. Have a nice day.
Trump deserves a lot of blame for the damage the vaccines are causing, as he has actually referred to himself as he father of the vaccines, and still strongly supports them. If that’s not an issue for you, fine, but it is an issue to millions of others, and the numbers of those concerned about the vaccines is only growing, most of which are certainly not never-Trumpers and probably even voted for him a t least once. Like me.

Or ... whomever PDJT picks as VP. That should be VERY interesting. (HINT: It wouldn't be DeSantis, who wouldn't attract a single extra Vote for Trump.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
President Trump was trying to save the country by heading off a complete shutdown of the economy by the Deep State apparatchiks ... not to mention trying to save the 2020 election.
So, while I agree with you 100% that vaccines were a horrible choice, and very dangerous, I cut Trump some slack on this issue.
CEOs make decisions. Hence, they make some mistakes. Comes with the territory.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's worse than that.
DeSantis is Yale undergrad, Harvard Law.
BARF. There are already FAR, FAR too many of these types in public office.
Thanks for your reasoned response.
Regarding mistakes of the past, Trump not only sold us hard on the vaccines, his executive orders were the root of the eviction moratoriums, and student debt relief:

Even if all that’s forgiven for him being overwhelmed by the moment, the fact that he STILL supports the vaccines is inexcusable, IMO. And I don’t know if he’s ever spoken out about the eviction moratoriums or Biden’s student debt relief, either. Thanks.
