Before Donald Trump descended the golden escalator at Trump tower in June 2015, the GOP had gone more than a quarter-century without a rock star. Now, it has two, and that is the challenge.
Fresh from his deft Martha’s Vineyard gambit, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis flew into Kansas on Sunday to rally support for Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt, now running for governor against incumbent Democrat Laura Kelly.
Saul Alinsky, the acknowledged master of forcing poseurs to honor their own policies, could not have done better than DeSantis. No political stroke in memory has succeeded in exposing liberal hypocrisy quite so effortlessly and effectively. Had the Islanders taken the 50 illegal aliens in, they might have checked DeSantis’s move and saved a little face, but they didn’t. They lived up to their most ludicrous stereotypes, calling in the National Guard and deporting the hapless Venezuelans to some sterile Army base on the mainland. It will be years before “Martha’s Vineyard” is anything but a template for a meme or a punch line to a joke.
Both Schmidt and U.S. Senator Roger Marshall had fun with Martha’s Vineyard in the speeches they gave preceding DeSantis’s. The SRO crowd at the Olathe (O-lay-the) Civics Center ate it up. When DeSantis took center stage, the thousands in attendance were primed. They surged to their feet and roared their appreciation. If it wasn’t clear before this past week, it was clear to everyone in Olathe. Ron DeSantis has arrived.
SNIP
That said, he did not mention Trump in his speech. Schmidt has also been tagged as something of a moderate, but one would not have guessed that from his intense and impressively disciplined speech. He did not mention Trump either.

Sorry, nice attempt at ad hominem with your dumbest comment on the thread. But what should be expected about someone who blames Trump for Biden's mandate, and blames Trump rather than the FBI and the leftist agitators for the J6 non insurrection "insurrection".
I think that your comments are boomeranging on you.
It’s for our PODJT The GOAT, if he wants it.
If not, and only if not, then I’d be happy voting for another guy named Ron.
First one was pretty good.
Let’s see if DeSantis can draw 50K at an event.
“DeSantis joined the United States Navy in 2004, where he was promoted to lieutenant before serving as an advisor to SEAL Team One and being deployed to Iraq in 2007. When he returned to the U.S. a year later, the U.S. Department of Justice appointed DeSantis to serve as a Special Assistant U.S. attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Middle District of Florida, a position he held until his honorable discharge in 2010.”
During his military career, DeSantis has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Iraq Campaign Medal.[19][20][21] As of 2022, he was still serving in the U.S. Navy Reserve.[1]
The above was copied from Wikipedia.
Desantis had a blue collar family back round. He went to a public high school in Florida. His father/mother were not rich. His parents did not go to Yale. He got into Yale on a baseball scholarship. He graduated with honors and because of that got into Harvard Law school. He got his naval appointment as a JAG officer after graduating with honors.
I have never understood how people denigrate the Ivy league colleges. Most likely it is out of jealousy because they or their children could not gain entrance. My son had straight As with a high SAT score and could not get in. My nephew is literally a genius in math/economics and could not get in.
He is now enrolled at the London School of Economics. He will most likely attend Cambridge. The fact that Desantis got into a Ivy League school as a normal blue collar kid is something we should applaud, not denigrate.
“A primary with Desantis v Trump will be the end of the Republican party. Desantis better not even THINK about running against Trump in ‘24. Kooks like you need your head examined. I hope that kooks like you do not influence the young Gov. Desantis.”
Who cares what DeSantis does.
If the little bull goes “head to head” with the Orange Mammoth,he’ll get crushed like a bug.
The charisma exuded by Trump and De Santis is truly a winning combination
The Democrat party is completely void of any charisma
Americans will take note of the positive charismatic feelings
You made bad life decisions. Those decisions seem to have caught up with you. You have already admitted that you did this for a paycheck. You're attempts to blame someone else for YOUR decisions are silly and childish. I didn't do this to you. PDJT didn't do this to you. You did this to you. Now you have to live with it, if you can. Your TDS is pointless.
Two rock stars and a bunch of duds..
Don’t forget......... Help is needed

Bill and Hillary Clinton were Ivy League lawyers. For some positions in government and business, the Ivy League pedigree is meaningless at best.
Personally, I work in a STEM field where I wouldn't even consider hiring an Ivy Leaguer. In my particular field, I have found them to be borderline useless. The best employees I had were the ones who paid their way through college, took a long time to complete their degrees because they worked their way through school, and graduated in their mid-20s.
Like a bug.
” For some positions in government and business, the Ivy League pedigree is meaningless at best. ..”
And counter-productive!
They are not particularly any more knowledgeable, but they do come with loads of free uninformed arrogance!
two? we need a hundred or more
he has said he is running for governor
he became governor in 19
two terms and then sky’s the limit
DeSantis/Lake 2024
there is dream team but after 2024
He’s pissing you off.
There’s a whole bunch of us watching Ron DeSantis actually doing many of the things Trump just tweeted about.
Right now, DeSantis is fighting, —and winning.
It states right in Desantis bio that he “worked his way through Yale”.
The problem with many of Ivy League graduates is they got into Yale, Harvard, etc because dad went there or some other rich grandfather/uncle called up the Chancellor of the University and made a donation to the endowment to get their child in.
This is how GW Bush most likely got into Yale. Dad went there. His grandfather probably did too. The Bush’s were a rich family from Greenwich, CT before HW moved to Houston.
My point is Desantis got into Yale because he was a great athlete and he is also very intelligent. FYI, my company likes to hire former college/high school athletes because they tend to be VERY competitive people. They tend to be over achievers.
Keep in mind that people like Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Zuckerburg all eventually attended/graduated from Ivy League schools. All of these three started at public high schools. Although, Zuck transferred into Philips Exeter Academy half way through high school.
I never excused Biden or the FBI, but unlike you I’m not oblivious to Trump’s role in these catastrophes either, and that’s what this thread is about - Trump’s position in the GOP. Obviously Trump is better than Biden, or Hillary, but that does not make him the best in the GOP by any standard, except yours apparently.
Can the GOP Accommodate Two Rock Stars?
Yes, Trump as president and DeSantis as vp then later DeSantis as president.
Looking at up to 16 years of having conservatives fixing the country then after that electing more as president/vp.
My decisions are sound, starting with not supporting a covid vaccine proponent for President. If that’s your choice, fine, but I’m not supporting anyone who not only thinks, but says out loud, that those covid mRna abominations are one of the greatest inventions of mankind, when they are more likely one of the most evil of all time.
