A Tesla model X has a 100 kWH battery. It would take 100 kW of power for 60 minutes to recharge, ignoring losses.

To charge the same battery in 3 minutes would require 2 Megawatts of energy to be delivered to the battery!

“2 Megawatts of energy”

Megawatts is a measure of power, not energy.

“ would require 2 Megawatts of energy to be delivered to the battery”

What you meant was it would take a 2 MW charger operating for 3 minutes.

It would be interesting to see the cable necessary to deliver the current needed to support that rate of charge.

I don’t know the specifics of this wonder battery but in theory if it can be charged at a much higher voltage, it wouldn’t need a lot of current.

Good point. So the 200 amp service to my home would have to increase by about 42 times that to do 3 minute recharges at home. I’d need a 500 amp service or more to do 60 minute recharges and still power the home during recharges.

That’s roughly the equivalent of 13 150 kW Tesla superchargers.

Kinda glosses over the laws of physics....how much heat would be generated on the components during this magical transfer of energy?

YEP!

Battery Capacity => 100KWH * 60minutes/hour = 6000KW-minutes

Recharging Power => P6000KW-minutes / 3minutes[charging time] = 2000KW = 2Megawatts

Just put a bigger breaker in your fuse box, problem solved!
