She already had Planned Parenthood connections.Some of Reagan's closest advisors kept him in the dark about her existing record. Anthony Kennedy, on the other hand, was a complete, disastrous surprise.

The late Bob Novak wrote about this deception in his memoir “The Prince of Darkness”. That book is a real feast for political junkies if you’ve never read it.
