You can't see what the South Rim of the canyon exactly looks like when you're on the South Rim, so you just gotta get off the trail and sidle over to the hairy edge...

or you could just look across at the North Rim and realize that the South Rim probably looks pretty much the same.

That is true but I like the North rim better. It’s less busy and the restaurant food there is better. We took the train ride when we visited South rim but had a squirter gun fight on 4th of July one year on the North rim. The park rangers doused everyone with firehoses.

The North Rim is higher in elevation (about 1000 ft) than the South Rim.

A couple of decades ago, my grandparents drove from NC to the Grand Canyon.

They stayed about 10 minutes and lost interest.
