Thank you, but save it for those who volunteer. In those days, men HAD to serve. This was before the lottery numbers and before Nam got cooking. Granted, I volunteered for the Navy Reserve, but that was because I didn’t want to play in the mud. Every man had a six year military obligation to the country. There were several different ways that obligation could be met. I chose the USNR. Without that bomb in my wallet that said I was 1-A, which could go off at any time, I doubt I would have signed up.
