When I photocopy at map at the Library of Congress the photocopy includes a copied “REPRODUCED FROM...” label placed in a corner of the glass platen.
I assume the White House does something similar for its document photocopies.
The originals would be labeled by date, indexed and officially stored.
Every presidential document and every copy of a classified document would be tracked.
If President Trump didn’t hand back a classified copy by say 5pm he would get asked for it by a staffer. That would be to prevent a butler from getting his hands on a classified document Trump put aside.
Each of those persons probably took several thousand document copies each at the end of their final term.
Writing books pays well for the political elite - as Trump’s predecessor knows well.
Classified documents are stored in safes.
Two people are required to open and close such safes normally to better ensure the safe is properly locked and each document is logged out and back in.

Thos isn’t a big conspiracy by the left, there’s actually been some shady stuff with Trump, like Kushner getting $2 billion from Saudi Arabia and his close ties with Russia, Hungary, Saudi, and North Korea. Trump may have been trying to sell nuclear codes or info. to foreign adversaries in exchange for money or in order to bribe someone. Otherwise FBI (recall that Wray suppressed thousands of tips on the FBI tip-line about Kavanaugh’s sexual assault & his FBI declined to conduct any investigation into Kavanaugh at Trump’s request so that we could get another conservative on SCOTUS) and DOJ would never have gone through the process of getting the search warrant (signed by a magistrate that Trump appointed) and holding a grand jury. Espionage is quite a serious threat to national security.
