New York City Mayor Eric Adams called on the federal government for assistance after buses of migrants sent by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott began arriving at his doorstep over the weekend.
Texas has begun busing illegal immigrants released at the border to major Democratic-leaning cities, most notably the Big Apple and Washington D.C., as part of a larger effort to raise awareness about the worsening migrant crisis and lessen the burden on the state's overwhelmed border communities. While no buses had been sent to New York until this weekend, Adams inaccurately claimed in late July that Texas and Arizona were busing migrants into his city, which is a sanctuary zone and is viewed by illegal immigrants as a safe place to reside because local police do not cooperate with federal immigration police.
“This is horrific, when you think about what the governor is doing,” Adams, a Democrat, said of Abbott, a Republican, at a press conference Sunday at the Port Authority bus terminal, where migrants were dropped off that morning.
“It is unimaginable what the governor of Texas has done, when you think about this country, a country that has always been open to those who were fleeing persecution,” the mayor noted. “We’ve always welcomed them. And this governor is not doing that in Texas. But we are going to set the right tone of being here for these families.”
Abbott, who has become a thorn in the Biden administration's side over the immigration issue, defended his actions last week by arguing that the several thousand people bused to D.C. pales in comparison to what his communities, including Eagle Pass, Tx.; Del Rio, Tx.; and McAllen, Tx., have faced for the past 16 months.

All red border states should immediately bus Biden’s illegals to the deep blue cities in deep blue states. New York City and DC will do nicely for now for starters.
Sanctuary for thee but not for me!
Never forget, all the democrat party voters in 1964 elected a Congress that passed the Immigration act of 1965. This is why we are in the place we are in with illegal and legal immigration today.
Someone to repair the bus?
I think it was called the Hart-Celler Act.
During debate on the Senate floor, Senator Ted Kennedy, speaking of the effects of the Act, said, “our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. ... Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset.”
What a liar. They knew exactly what would happen, White displacement over time.
“We’ve always welcomed them. And this governor is not doing that in Texas. But we are going to set the right tone of being here for these families.”
I think Texas has done its fair share.
I don’t know why NYC isn’t sending its own buses down there to get their poor brown brothers and sisters.
lol
So Eric the pimp Adam is admitting he can’t do the job. Poor guy is about to become a victim still. Maybe he should talk to the mayor of Washington DC they can have a pity party. Nobody knows the trouble they’ve seen.
He didn’t know things were this bad.
Note that no one is FORCED to take these buses. Instead, most likely, the people on the buses would try to make their way there anyway, due to having friends, families, and/or jobs in that part of the country.
The buses from Texas just GET THE POINT across that far more than border states are affected.
We’re talking about a few thousand out of millions of invaders.
Maryann Tharappel, who directs NYC’s immigrant and refugee services.“The infrastructure in New York is not built for BUSLOADS of migrants,” she said. “We are not on the border.”
But.....to quote NYC suckup mayor:
“NYC will continue to be one ‘sanctuary city‘. But for me that of a ‘sanctuary city ‘ means more than just saying that we will not work together with ICE and we will not allow our agencies to persecute our undocumented residents, but we must go further, “said Mayor Eric Adams....
... it is essential “to make sure that these undocumented New Yorkers are being given the support they need, so that their families no longer live in the shadows of the American dream, but are part of that dream.”
`The first “bus load” to reach NYC contained 14 people and he’s already complaining.
Leadership is contagious.......and Abbott was soon joined in the bus-a-thon by Arizona’s Gov. Douglas Ducey.
Who’s next?
I’m one of the few English speakers in my neighborhood in Houston.
