I had no idea. That’s terrible. His books are superb.

I highly recommend The Fleet at Flood Tide. Like all of his books, it’s highly readable and packed with information.

RIP. Far too young.

that some heavy water! at 6ft, there is 17psi around you... at 23,000 ft there around 10,000 psi around you!! if there was any water tight integrity on that ship when it went down, that spaced probably crushed like a tin can by the time it landed!

It was not as widely known that he was also an Agent for writers seeking publication and as a top light in the naval historian community had helped many others in that field.

Mantle and Maris all in one.

Caladan Oceanic returns to the ocean battlefield off of Samar, and resumes its search for American vessels lost during the battle. After an extensive search, the team finds the deepest wreck ever found on the seafloor, that of the Destroyer Escort Samuel B "Sammy B" Roberts. The vessel was lost after a ferocious fight with the cream of the Imperial Japanese Navy in the largest overall naval battle of World War II, the 1994 Battle of the Philippine Sea.
