This looks like early research. Germanium held similar promise for decades, but, in practice, the advantages always seem to be outweighed by the disadvantages, for integrated circuits. Silicon is tough to beat.

If you write up your results to say “We found this new material with interesting properties, but it probably has no practical application”, you probably don’t get more funding.
