Remote work made these protests useless; far fewer people are inconvenienced. Long before COVID, a friend working in downtown Newark described how they’d be instructed to work remotely if the Simbas came into the small downtown area to disrupt traffic (after George Floyd). Totally blunted the impact of the protests, and simply made the downtown even more deserted in terms of commercial activity.
