Daycare Worker Allegedly Killed Baby By Shaking Her, Googled 'Shaken Baby Syndrome'

An Illinois in-home daycare worker is behind bars after she allegedly caused fatal injuries to an infant by shaking her and then Googled "shaken baby syndrome."

According to WAND-TV, citing police, 24-year-old Taylor Burris told authorities she was caring for 7-week-old Maren Gallagher on May 17, when she was hit in the head with a ball thrown by another child.

Following the alleged injury at her Forsyth, Ill., home, Burris then reportedly put Maren down for a nap. Ninety minutes later, she proceeded to feed her a bottle, which Maren vomited back up, police said. The infant was then reportedly taken to the hospital, where she died the next day.

Citing an affidavit written by Sgt. Robert Pope with the Macon County Sheriff's Office, the Herald & Review reports investigators questioned the circumstances surrounding the baby's death, and autopsy reports were sent to Dr. Jill Glick, a professor of pediatrics and child abuse expert at the University of Chicago School of Medicine, for review.

"Dr. Glick would conclude in her preliminary findings that these injuries were caused by a violent car crash or shaken baby syndrome," said Pope, per the outlet. "Dr. Glick would then indicate that since there was no known car crash, she strongly suspected shaken baby syndrome."

After questioning Burris a second time, she allegedly confessed to shaking Maren, according to the affidavit. She told investigators the infant was in fact hit in the head with a ball, but following the alleged injury, she wouldn't stop crying. Burris then allegedly proceeded to shake the baby, the affidavit states, per the outlets.

"Taylor admitted the incident occurred around 10:40 a.m. but didn't call EMS until 2:05 p.m.,"

This is incredulous. Taylor tried to stop an injured 7 week old infant from crying by shaking it to death. Then Taylor googles "shaken baby syndrome" on her phone to see if that could be the reason for infant dying.

What kind of mother sends a 7 week old to day care?

what kind of father?....

it would be wonderful if we could return back to the days where daddy earned the paycheck, even two jobs, and mother stayed home to care for the children....

True. But there are taxes to be paid. Lots and lots of taxes. For all the programs we provide for those that can’t work and for those that don’t want to work. Lots and lots of taxes. Oodles of taxes! And that is why one of the partners works. Largely to pay taxes on their combined income. For programs, more programs, oodles and oodles of programs! And government employees. Oodles and oodles of government employees! And so on....

Not that I expect everyone to do it, but we ate MREs sometimes while my then-husband was in the Army so that I could be home with our daughter. My husband got the meat stuff (I’m vegan), I ate the vegetables and grains. Rice with soy sauce and pepper was my dinner some nights. The baby got her baby food and some.

Never regretted a day of it.

I massively downsized in my home and lifestyle when My son was born so I could work part time, which I did until he was in school full time. My mom could handle 20 hours, but 40 would have been overwhelming. I was a single parent. I trusted no one, but my family.

I understand what you’re saying. But, it can be done. It took swallowing my pride short term as I did not have a big beautiful home. Most higher paying jobs at my company meant going full time. But, I reminded myself what was priority and what he’d remember most those 6 years was our time together. Not the home. Those were the most precious days.

and alot of folks have kids and really don’t have any $$ to support them.
I was lucky enough to stay home with my girls until school age and never had to work full time anyhow.
We were poor but had no idea!
Anyhow- i would not leave a baby with strangers but that is just me.

You did what real parents do. Although most of us eat meat LOL - just kidding on that one.

Talking to my nephew I asked him if he would take a bullet for his kids. He said unquestionably. I said, you’re a father.

One who is broke, which is most Americans under Bidenflation, and also gainfully employed, which puts her one up on many Rats.

I do not believe it was a daycare as the article states the baby died in her home. Most likely the baby sitter was hired by the parents as a nanny. Many upper class parents do hire out a nanny to care for their children.

How they got this woman, via an agency etc. is not reported.

But if they hired her through an agency the agency will be at fault for taken on a unfit caretaker.

This is such a sad story.

Those of us on lower incomes have made do to be at home with our children.

It is not like that for every one.

The parents have to live with the choice they made. It was a bad choice hiring this unfit person to care for their baby.
