Always sad, even if one doesn’t like the music.

White was an excellent drummer. Maybe not as good as Bill Bruford but who is.

I’m probably one of the few that thinks “Drama” was one of the best Yes albums.

Back when catching that hi-hat at the exact moment to make it sizzle was so cool, even disco picked up on it, Alan did this four banger during an instrumental section of “Gates of Delerium” on the “Relayer” album which I still think is the hottest hi-hat punch I ever heard.

Always wondered if “Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman and Howe” wouldn’t’ve just been named “Yes Minus White” if people wouldn’t;ve thought it was referring to a color. (Not exactly: Squire was also from that era of Yes.)

While he didn’t play on it,
more weed was smoked with “Close to the Edge” than with any other Album.
He joined right after.

If I remember correctly . . .

What?

Every time a rock star dies, Keith Richards gets stronger.

I saw Yes twice. They did not try to copy pop culture and I appreciated that. They were unique and made their own way. I first heard of them when I was in high school with the song “Starship Troopers” a Robert Heinlein-inspired song. RIP Alan White.

I was a fan of Yes, having found them as an adolescent when “Owner of a Lonely Heart” went huge. White’s was probably the best drum smash-in I can think of (although Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight” is a good runner up).

No-one take this personally, but I think the big limit to their popularity was that Yes fans were among the worst of what we now would call “gate-keepers,” though. It’s like you weren’t ALLOWED to call yourself a Yes fan if you liked 90215 without first finding their older albums divinely bestowed upon humanity.

He was forced to sit out of Yes in 2016 due to back surgery,

Neil Peart, Phil Collins, too. Seems like drumming takes a heavy toll over the years.

I heard him interviewed a couple months ago. He mentioned his drum set had been stolen.

Man, nothing makes you feel out of touch when you realize one of your favorite “Dad rock” bands released a new album (”The Quest”) in 2021, and you didn’t even realize it.

Any opinions? Worthy of Yes? NOT worthy of Yes but still worthy of a listen (like, for instance, Pink Floyd’s sleepy-time album, “The Endless River.”)?

Hi.

In the fwiw department, I hope I live longer than Keith Richards.

I know, a stretch.

I hope I live longer than Jane Fonda.

So I can...

RIP. Always sad to see a fellow drummer pass.

Many people think drummers are not true musicians. Accomplished drummers play their kits with an ear for the notes to each drum, cymbal, high-hat, floor bass and tune them for a particular song. The best know how to fill or pause against or with the rhythm of the other instruments. Easy example: Bonham on Zepplin's "Good Times, Bad Times"
