“I agree, its more likely they’d be from this solar system and were part of some civilization from the distant past.”

~~~
Aside from the fact that I don’t trust most of the accounts anyway, if there truth to the phenomenon being observed, I prefer occams razor. The most probable is that what is being observed is man-made technology, of various types. What appear to be crafts moving extremely fast and changing direction have no mass at all. They are projections or illusions.
But to me, what you just mentioned would be the second most likely. They are not extra-terrestrial at all. If we are going to use the evolutionary model, primates have been around for millions and millions of years, then in several thousand years stood up, and a much much shorter period of time grew huge craniums. The span of that time compared to the history of life on earth is virtually instantaneous. So why should we assume that never happened before, in hundreds of millions of years? If that did happen though, why did they seem to bug out from the surface of the planet?
There are other possibilities of course, but the least likely, to me, is they just zing on over from distant systems whenever they want. Even if any intelligence became advanced enough to know how to traverse interstellar distances (wormholes, folding, whatever) the investment to repeat this process would mean it is not something you would do regularly. Hence, it is more likely they would ‘station’ or stage here, or near here.
The chances that we’ve been visited by aliens is ZERO.
Think about it:
Light (and all electronic radio/TV signals) travel at the speed of light. The first remotely strong radio signals produced here on earth were around 120 years ago.
So, at this moment, the farthest an alien could be from earth, and have ANY chance of knowing something intelligent is even here, is 120 light years.
Let’s assume an intelligent, space-faring alien civilization exists within 120 light years - let’s say 50 light years away. And let’s assume that the moment they detected our signal, they launched their ship, somehow capable of accelerating to the speed of light within a few minutes without killing the crew. In that case, the earliest they would have reached earth is about 20 years ago, at best.
I have little doubt that life exists elsewhere in the universe - there are billions of stars in our galaxy alone, and countless billions of galaxies in the universe. But the distances are so enormous, and the number of galaxies and stars so nearly infinite, that the odds of an intelligent alien civilization existing, somehow being aware of our existence, and being able to actually travel here - fantasies of magical “wormholes” aside - are effectively zero.
Its a fascinating issue with even more fascinating possibilities.
“when humans deal with lower primates or worse”
Yes, exactly what we do. Put them in zoos and do experiments on them to see how they react. Have you seen the cattle mutilations on the Skinwalker range in Utah?
In Kurt Vonnegut's book Slaughterhouse Five the aliens put Billy Pilgrim and his mate in a zoo. All the aliens were very exited when they had a baby.
Obama is a bisexual. He likes to have sex with both women and men.
I know Victoria Nuland, Anthony Blinken, the Vindman twins, Robert Kagan (Nuland’s husband), and the rest of the motley Ukraine mob are not the kind of “aliens” you are discussing.
I offer this up:
This account has never been disproven.
I think that God, in His infinite wisdom, placed us many many light years apart for a very good reason.
We are not ready to interact with more advanced species until we, as humans, can get along with each other
Unfortunately, I don’t see that happening anytime soon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASsNtti1XZs
I don’t know if we’ve been visited, but I know I’ve never seen a smidgen of credible evidence — and I’ve looked for it.
I have, however, found many, mane stupid people.
Congress couldn’t find aliens if they flew right over their heads:
“So far there has never been a documented case of first contact with a being or entity.”
It all depends on what you mean by “documented”.
The flaw may lie in our method of “documentation”.
Good post—the octopus and the mushroom seem like the best candidates, for very different reasons.
“occams razor”
This has been used to cut the cognitive throats of creative humans for many centuries.
It is the weird data that is the key to future scientific revolutions.
When people started obsessing about flying saucers they still weren’t sure if there was intelligent life on Venus (or at least people had grown up not knowing whether there was or not). Today we know that the universe is a lot emptier (when it comes to intelligent life) than we thought back then.
Douglas Adams told us that we were in fact visited by aliens but no one recognized the visit. The aliens were dogs.
Having been a bee keeper and student of bees and colonial insects for a very long time, I am convinced that until we can have two way communication with Apis mellifera we can forget about communicating with galactic aliens
