The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating an outbreak of salmonella infections that is possibly linked to Jif peanut butter products.
The J.M. Smucker Company issued a voluntary recall for its creamy, crunchy, natural and reduced fat peanut butter products that were distributed nationwide, with lot code numbers 1274425 to 2140425, the FDA announced Friday. There have been at least 14 illnesses reported, including two hospitalizations, according to the FDA.
The 12 states that have reported salmonella cases are Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, Ohio, North Carolina, New York, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Washington.

I saw this on Breitbart yesterday and checked some crunchy natural Jiffy I bought last week (I use it to bake peanut butter cookies) - sure enough it has the bad lot numbers. I guess I’ll try to return it tomorrow when I go shopping...
Guess I’ll have to check for JIF
I just bought a lot of Walmart PB for the prepping supply
Thank you for posting. We have a twin-pack from Costco in the lot number range.
We’ll recall peanut butter but not the stabs??
Jif didn't grease the right palms.
Two weeks ago our 4 dogs developed explosive diarrhea. We make their food and have for the past 6 years. We couldn’t figure out what caused this, we checked the yard for pooled bad water, animal carcasses, etc. The diarrhea cleared up after a couple days after we changed their diet to chicken and rice. We realized after seeing the Jif issue last week, that we gave the pups their heart worm pills mixed with a big dollop of peanut butter. Turns out the lot number for the peanut butter was one of the bad ones. Have to think that with all the dogs developing the same symptoms at the same time, it had to be the peanut butter since we have never had this issue in the past.
Yep.
Our lot #1272006....recall lot# 1274425+...
"guess" I'm OK, though these things tend to expand with time(and illness).
And to be even a little bit more cynical, the J.M. Smucker Company would be sued for a tummy ache from a bad batch of peanut butter.
Pfizer is protected from all legal repercussions for any malfeasance.
Choosy Mothers choose JIF.
Instead of peanut butter, try the little Vienna sausages that you buy in the small cans. That is what we use to give our dogs any pills. They love those things.
True. Very true.
I looked and have a couple twin packs of the affected crunchy types. Purchased at Sam’s Club
There it is!!

We have two local stores that have peanut grinders — place a tub (provided by the store) under the grinder, press a button and fresh peanut butter is created.
It’s good and doesn’t have: Sugar, Molasses, Fully Hydrogenated Vegetable Oils (Rapeseed And Soybean), Mono And Diglycerides, or Salt added to it.
Got a partially used jar from a Costco two pack sitting on my desk that I’ll return today. No problems so far, but will return anyway. Not sure how they’ll handle the refund for a single jar from a two-pack.
We had a twin pack of the affected Jif. One was almost completely gone and the other not opened. We never noticed any issue. We tossed them any way. Costco will replace them.
If this happens with Trader Joe’s Almond Butter I will stil take my chances. Jif? No thanks.
