Poll: Majority of Millennials, Gen Zers Want Limits on Abortion (4 months old but still relevant)

...Far from being pro-abortion/straight-ticket voters without nuance, Millennials and Gen Zers share concerns about the extremes of abortion. They also desire to have a voice and a vote on life, and thoroughly reject the reckless and deadly policy pursued by the Biden administration and its corporate abortion allies on chemical abortion pills, according to a poll taken in early January and reported by Students for Life of America’s Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement.

Consider Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that almost 50 years ago stripped abortion policy away from the states, setting up almost limitless abortion and making ordinary political engagement almost impossible. An extraordinary 8 in 10 Millennials and Gen Zers want to vote on abortion policy, up from 66% in 2021, while 3 out of 4 want limits on abortion and 4 in 10 want either no abortion or abortion only for the traditional exceptions – in cases of rape, incest, or when the mother’s life is in danger

...

Education is key in working with these voters, which is the central mission of SFLA’s in-person, 50-state operation. A 10-percentage point shift in Millennial and Gen Z views on Roe, from positive to negative, took place after respondents learned more about its impact. For example, almost 6 in 10 opposed Roe after learning that it allows for abortion through all nine months of pregnancy.

All of this means that if Roe becomes a historical footnote and the issue of abortion is returned to the states – possibly through the Dobbs v. Jackson case under consideration now – that’s a positive for most voters. In fact, the poll found that 65% of Millennials and Gen Zers oppose people in power deciding who is fully human and deserving of legal rights.

The left has not inculcated in the next generation a passion for abortion and Roe as a galvanizing "right." It's sort of your grandparent's jam - "protest over abortion? Ok, boomer..."

I think the protests we are seeing are produced by aging ERA and NOW members via FB who are frightened that nobody will pickup the mantle, and worse nobody CARES about Roe. They're way too many manufactured signs, and the people with homemade signs look like they came from central casting - they probably answered an ad and get a free bus ride, box lunch and some loose joints if they act like they're on MSNBC for an afternoon.

In contrast, there are zillions of youths who'd get peeved if the 2nd Amendment was on the ropes. That's because we've inculcated in our progeny (ps we didn't kill our progeny) a love and understanding of natural rights, original intent, and we've taken them out to the range.

I've read that attendance at Graceland is way down over the past few decades...the Estate failed to keep Elvis relevant to the next generation. Most GenZers know about Elvis from Lilo &a Stitch. In 20 years, nobody will buy his music or care about his legacy. Same general thing with abortion.

Elvis and abortion will not fade at the same rate. Don’t be silly.

Abortion is in the back of the mind of every woman who wants autonomy on when they become mothers. Abortion hasn’t been a cause to worry about because of the pill and abortion has been there as a reliable backup. Now Red states are imposing restrictions that are nationally very unpopular.

Abortion rights are now front and center and all the recent inroads the GOP made with voters (MAGA) will be decimated. Resulting in loosing restrictions and a pissed off electorate and fired up Democrat base.

According to your own stats, 60 percent oppose near total bans.

Elvis is gone.

And overturning Roe isn't a de facto ban.

Young adults are more passionate about minority rights than their boomer aunt's abortion right. And they're not having sex or getting married (or confused about their own sexuality thanks to modern culture) until later in life. It's not even in the back of the mind.

What next - surrender the 2nd Amendment because we may lose 5 swing seats?

The “Progressives” made the mistake of pushing us too far. The proposed post birth ‘abortions’ (see Ralph Northam, MD Bill SB669, and CA Bill AB2223) was the last straw.

I remember Jr. High school. Student elections were held in the courtyard during lunch hour. Nobody voted, certainly not enough to please the administrators. The ‘solution’ was to issue a ballot to everyone in their 6th period class. No choice.
Problem solved.

I often wondered why students knee-jerked themselves into participating in student elections knowing it was nothing. School is for learning. Going with the program was good for the robotic amongst us. It taught me that the freedom to not participate is the real freedom. The homeless are the most free.

Young adults aren’t having sex? Don’t be naïve.

I don’t know personally of any liberal, including those who don’t speak with me anymore, who found ”unlimited” to be anything but an abomination. This will prove to be a bridge too far for libs, and the opening salvo of the upcoming conservative “snapback”.

All that, and you nit-pick on the absence of a qualifier on young lust?

Your treatment of KABA as a bargaining chip is noted. Have a happy Mother's Day.

You live in California and your posting history is all about abortion. A California commie who thinks the rest of us are as locked into infanticide as you are. These people want to kill children right up to the moment of birth. It isn’t about first trimester and “rape, incest or the mother’s life” any more. It’s ghoulish murder.

At some point society has to decide if we want to say “enough” after being bullied for fifty years.

Larry Hogan (Homer Simpson) probably thinks surrender on the 2nd Amendment would be politically smart.

Yeah, well, in a democracy, people get to make the laws, and there are very majorities ready to say “enough”. I’m all for the 10th amendment.. but the backlash to zero tolerance will be paid trips to Hawaii with every abortion in all the Blue states. My focus is fiscal conservatives winning elections and keeping the Marxists out of power.. which is a battle that we are currently losing. The US is teetering on insolvency and some people would like to make it harder for the sane ones to get elected. If you want to keep the total number of abortions low, you don’t give Democrats power and make it harder for conservatives to get elected. Just sayin.
