Your phone could reveal if you’ve had an abortion
Washington Post ^ | May 5, 2022 | Geoffrey A. Fowler and Tatum Hunter

When someone gets an abortion, they may decide not to share information with friends and family members. But chances are their smartphone knows.

The leak of a Supreme Court draft opinion proposing to overturn Roe v. Wade raises a data privacy flash point: If abortion becomes criminal in some states, might a person’s data trail be treated as evidence?

There is precedent for it, and privacy advocates say data collection could become a major liability for people seeking abortions in secret. Phones can record communications, search histories, body health data and other information. Just Tuesday, there was new evidence that commercial data brokers sell location information gathered from the phones of people who visit abortion clinics.

“It is absolutely something to be concerned about — and something to learn about, hopefully before being in a crisis mode, where learning on the fly might be more difficult,” said Cynthia Conti-Cook, a technology fellow at the Ford Foundation.

It is now common for law enforcement to make use of the contents of people’s phones, including location and browsing information. One case against an alleged Jan. 6 insurrectionist drew upon thousands of pages of data from the suspect’s phone as well as Facebook records, prosecutors said.

Also, if you rob a Brinks truck cash shipment, don't brag about it on social media. AND take the batteries out of your smartphone so they don't geo-track you. And wear masks and gloves. Ditch the getaway vehicle. Then split up and don't meet for a while.
I'm just saying those smart phones will rat you every time.

oh yeah, don't abort. That's bad.

Seems like they can or soon will be able to track you to/from:

The gun store.

The political rally they don’t like.

The scene of the crime (if you’re a witness who doesn’t want to get involved.)

The scene of the crime (if you’re a victim who defended himself and doesn’t want to get prosecuted by a Soros funded prosecutor.)

The location you started from, the location you ended at and the travel time. This is a problem for those who exceed the speed limit. That’s a problem if “they” establish arbitrary low speed limits to increase ticket revenue.

Other things I’ve missed.

Idiots!
Under HIPAA, protected health information is considered to be individually identifiable information relating to the past, present, or future health status of an individual that is created, collected, or transmitted, or maintained by a HIPAA-covered entity in relation to the provision of healthcare, payment for healthcare services, or use in healthcare operations (PHI healthcare business uses).

Health information such as diagnoses, treatment information, medical test results, and prescription information are considered protected health information under HIPAA, as are national identification numbers and demographic information such as birth dates, gender, ethnicity, and contact and emergency contact information. PHI relates to physical records, while ePHI is any PHI that is created, stored, transmitted, or received electronically.

I’m an old fart. Cellular phones are relatively new in my personal history stream of life. Getting along without one of those things would be easy. I know many other would wither away and die if they had to go without one.

My postal carrier knows for whom I voted for President. Person of color. Made sure to leave a tip at Christmas, with a personal note of thanks for the daily deliveries during the pandemic.

I'm not particularly worried about being tracked.

You can use metal window screen to make a terrific Faraday bag. Stitch it together with #26 bare wire and then overlay it with nylon or canvas.
