Some interesting developments on the leaked Supreme Court decision. 1) Roberts confirms that's the decision. 2) Although Thomas writes exceptional legally-argued decisions, Sam Alito has a remarkable flair for sticking the knife. In his decision, he repeatedly referenced the legal reasoning of . . . Lawrence Tribe from 1973! Alito not only reverses lib nonsense but does it with their own words. 3) Long discussion with Richard Baris today. Bottom line, NO subgroup in his polling supports abortion. Some are closer than others, but Hispanics strongly oppose, and even LIBERAL WOMEN by a small majority oppose anything past the first trimester. The only group consistently supporting it is liberal men. If the question is asked with wording removing "criminalizing" and instead saying the issue would be returned to the states, virtually all support disappears.
According to Baris, the #1, 2, 3 and 4 issues for Americans is inflation, inflation, inflation and gas prices/food prices. This trumps abortion on every poll. "The notion that this decision would bring a bunch of pro-choicers to the polls is ludicrous" he said. They are already the single most highly motivated, most-likely-to-vote group out there. Instead, it brings out pro-lifers who are often less motivated voters."
4) The leak was NOT a "precedent." In 1856, Justice Catron, who supported Roger Taney's pro-slave majority in the Dred Scott Case, wrote to Pres. James Buchanan in DECEMBER 1856 telling him that he would be "very happy" with the Dred Scott decision to be released in April.
5) Zen Master, my court guru, has urged that the Court release its "final" decision immediately with the "written opinions yet to come" so as to protect the members of the court. Good idea.
6) Faux News has a big poll out today virtually confirming everything Baris has found. Baris: "I get concerned when Fox starts to look like my results."
7) Big child vax victory today from a KS case, while Supreme Courts in Italy and Spain have ruled that mandatory vaxxes violate their constitutions.
8) Zen Master says this is only the first of a trio of big victories. Guns and Affirmative action incoming.
9) Let them try to end the filibuster. First, Manchin-on-a-Hill and Enema are pretty smart for DemoKKKrats and they know that within two years a reelected Trump would utterly crush the DemoKKKrats for a CENTURY if they did this. In terms of court packing, Yertle is an evil spooge but he knows his procedure and he'll tie up any schemes for two years. It's about the only thing Yertle is good at.
10) Oh, and all the critics of Kegger Kavanagh & ACB need to apologize. if they did nothing else, this would put them in the judicial freedom and justice hall of fame.
Are you sure that's what he said?
You mean pro-slavery, not pro-slave, right?
It’s only been one day and people are already bored hearing about it.
(while Supreme Courts in Italy and Spain have ruled that mandatory vaxxes violate their constitutions.)
Imagine that. Forced injection by needle 💉 being wrong.
Exactly. I want to hear more about “2000 mules.”
Thx!
Not long ago either on this forum or Twitter, I referred to these two as "center-left" judges.
I'll happily eat my words.
I think you’ll be pleased with their rulings on guns and aff action, per Zen Master.
Oh, trust me, no one is bored. My inboxes/Twit/other streams are blowing up.
Yes.
Love your style. If the standard FR post is 10 gallons of sap, yours is boiled down to a pint of maple syrup.
Agree; it’s really a good thing this comes out now, hopefully the final decision is published very soon. The longer the left has to stew over this, the better. In a couple of months this will be old news, but things like inflation and CRT will only get worse and will still be on voters minds come elections time.
Thanks.
What’s Baris?
good recap Larry. I appreciate it. I’m so grateful for this (potential?) ruling...
can you comment on that....what are the odds it comes out in June, etc., and it’s different than what was leaked?
Rich Baris is a pollster. He has a website called People’s Pundit Daily
DeSantis and the Mississippi law are probably something most people could make peace with, the Texas law is neither of these things. If this stands the GOP has an unforced overreach error in elevating Amy Coney Barrett, and its a brand new ballgame for the Democrats.
Thanks.
This should be a center-left position.
