Have the album, still hard to get into.
Great album. My favorite.
Townsend’s created demos to provide the band so they could record it. His demo of love reign over me is pretty remarkable and somewhat close to the finished product.
Judging from your screen name and profile I suspect you may be more of a Doors fan.
I think The Who Sell Out is their most underrated.
It wasn’t, and isn’t, underrated by me.
In college (77-83, I was a co-op and got a masters degree), I would drive about 6 hours home to see my parents, probably 4-6 times a year. It became a ritual for me to listen to Quadrophenia straight thru on cassette for at least one of the trips (going or coming back), if not both.
Is there a better bass line anywhere than Entwhistle’s on The Real Me?

Yep, pretty amazing. Even more so listen to the live version of Dreaming from the Waist from the extended version of Who By Numbers. Jaw dropping Bass playing.
The 2012-2013 Quadrophenia tour was a breathtaking multimedia extravaganza that was one of the top 5 shows I ever saw...the backdrop of world events streamed during "The Rock" including 9/11, Keith and John's passing may be THE most spectacular combo of visuals and sound ever in rock.
Absolutely the greatest rock concept album ever. Better than Tommy.

I always called it Townshend’s first masterpiece. Quadrophenia is his last (so far, anyway).
I'm probably in the minority, but I consider Townshend's "Chinese Eyes" album as his last masterpiece.
Great movie too. Mod revival happened on US West Coast in the 1980’s

It’s a fine one, for sure.
