BOULDER, Colo. — The Boulder Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating three stolen bikes that are worth more than $80,000.
Sometime between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 8:15 a.m. Thursday, a business in the 2800 block of Wilderness Place was broken into and three bicycles were stolen, according to police. Two of the bikes had unique prototype technology.
The first bike — a black, heavily modified Cervelo P5 triathlon bike — is valued at $40,000 and features a concept drivetrain (shaft drive, no chain) and high-end wheels.
The second bike is a heavily modified Canyon Lux full suspension mountain bike. It is black with blue accents, includes a concept drivetrain (shaft drive, no chain) and is valued at $30,000.
The third bike is a specialized Turbo Levo mountain bike. It's blue with white lettering and is valued at $12,000. Police say it is very similar to the one pictured below.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective C. Hartkopp at 303-441-1951. Those who wish to stay anonymous can contact Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers online or at 1-800-222-8477.
Is the shop owner a bit behind on his bills?

BOULDER, Colo. (KDVR) — Boulder Police are trying to find whoever broke into a Boulder bike company and stole three high-tech bikes.
In total, the three bikes are worth more than $80,000.
The thieves broke into Driven Technologies on Wilderness Place. Police believe they used a rock to smash the glass of the front door sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
One of the bikes is worth $40,000 alone. It’s a heavily modified, high-tech triathlon bike with a drive shaft like a car, instead of a chain.
The other bikes include a full suspension mountain bike worth $30,000 and a $12,000 specialized mountain bike.
If you have any information, please call the Boulder Police at (303) 441-3333 or our partners at Metro Denver Crimestoppers.
We think alike.
Bicycle ping
I’ll give you $45 tops..................
$50 bucks and that's the best I can do................
Get ‘em to throw in some pedals
Pathetic security for such valuable items.
LOL!...............
These would be a lot cheaper if they were in production. I don’t see much value in them, except to a manufacturer. Patents applied for?
The Cervelos are one-off prototypes. Only ones of their kind.
Bikes with the shaft drive system are so unusual, there is no way to fence them. Really wonder what the thief is planning too do with the bikes.
obviously not my old 3 speed Columbia.
They'd be recognized immediately if anyone was seen using them in competition or in any bike club.
More likely the thieves will try to sell them to a competitor high end bike manufacturer who would probably turn them.
I know a guy who had a computer repair shop and copied a client's client data file and tried to sell the info to a competitor of the client. That competitor notified the client and the guy was busted.
Crazy! I am a former cycling champion, from many, many years ago. I also had a very large collection of vintage bicycles which I have mostly sold now. I think the pawn show memes tell the tale. They are worth quite a bit to the eye of the beholder as two wheeled jewelry but it is doubtful they would get anything near $80,000 under normal circumstances. And they are unsellable since they are all one of a kind.
Yeah, I’m wondering, too. Still wrapping my head around the belt-drives.
Probably this.
I think I heard on the news that one bike has already been recovered, most likely the Specialized, which wasn't a drive-shaft prototype.
