Ransomware. I got this email. I donated to some Republican politicians and someone sold my email address. I get about 100 emails a day asking for donations. Well the ransomware crooks got my email address. These crooks do not know that my operating system is Linux Mint on a home built computer from parts. I have no camera or microphone. I would like to report this to the FBI, but do not know how. Is there a way to track down the crooks by using their Bitcoin wallet and address. The email uses my address as the 'sent from' address. Here is the email in full:
Greetings! Have you seen lately my e-mail to you from an account of yours? Yeah, that merely confirms that I have gained a complete access to device of yours.
Within the past several months, I was observing you. Are you still surprised how could that happen? Frankly speaking, malware has infected your devices and it's coming from an adult website, which you used to visit. Although all this stuff may seem unfamiliar to you, but let me try to explain that to you.
With aid of Trojan Viruses, I managed to gain full access to any PC or other types of devices. That merely means that I can watch you whenever I want via your screen just by activating your camera as well as microphone, while you don't even know about that. If so, this email is a hoax. Just delete it. Maybe reboot.
I get all kinds of spam emails, even from the FBI. Many go straight to my spam folder. Some get through to my regular list.

I know Satoshi personally and I am the only person who can help you find your scammers, well he could do it too but he won’t cause he is really not interested in matters of that sort.

We know where the ransom software comes from. Every last one of them. We just have too many politicians in DC who take illegal bribe money to not take any action. Every polidiot in DC has their hand in foreign cookie jars, bar none.
This is most likely a fake ransomware email. Check the email account that they purport to have sent the message from. If it is not in your “Sent Items” folder, then it is a fake. They have just “spoofed” your email address to make it look like the email was sent from your account when it was not. If that is the case, you can safely ignore the email and nothing will happen.
Basically they are just fishing for people who will believe their story without verifying it.

As others have posted, it’s not ransomware, just phishing. Most people wouldn’t worry about such an e-mail, as they don’t jerk off to porn on their computer. You on the other hand seem a little concerned... ;-)

Al - it sounds like the crooks won’t get anything from you which is good news. The FBI may have other complaints / reports related to these same guys that they can correlate with your story. Providing your info to the FBI might be helpful.
