In the interest of remembering that the average people of Russia and Ukraine are not much different from US, and are not their leaders:
There's a great Russian/Ukrainian band called 'Leonid and Friends', which began as a Chicago cover band and I think has branched out. (I believe they've been mentioned here before.)
My husband discovered them recently, and they're pretty amazing:

A documentary was made about them (rather long - 26 minutes - but interesting for the explanation of the founder's concept of what he wanted to do with the band):

The Carpenters, 1972. (23 seconds)
A classic. Give it a listen.
I’m a huge Leonid and Friends fan. There’s quite a few of us on FR.
Beginnings is actually my wake up tune on my alarm clock.
Serge Tiagnyrisndo is in Kiev with his wife and kids. He does a daily update on facebook.
Btw, they are incredible in concert
Yes, I think they have a ‘Go Fund Me’ for Serge. I’m not a fan of Go Fund Me’ anymore, but here’s the information if anyone is:

I just posted this in my college music course; thank you.
From what I understand, they had little sheet music to go by, and Leonid figured it all out by ear.
Great cover band but please no one say their renditions are better than Chicago’s originals, not even close.
What’s amazing is that they can sound like Terry Kath without any Russian accent. They also do really great covers of Earth, Wind, and Fire tunes although they use female voices for the high falsetto stuff. I don’t know why Americans lost interest in horn bands in the ‘90s. The trumpet licks for these charts are tough but fun.
What are your criteria?
I first - and pretty much only - heard Chicago on vinyl with my brother, when we were young.
I think Leonid and Friends are spot-on with what I heard; and my husband, who is younger and has heard a lot of the digital, also thinks they’re practically perfect.
So, there...
IMHO the best concert video you’ll find on YouTube is the 1970 Chicago Tanglewood concert.
I miss horns in popular music.
I like they do some of the Chicago deep cuts like “Introduction” and “What’s The World Coming To”.
I saw Chicago live twice in Seattle, '73-'74, great in concert, glad you like Leonid & Friends but they ain't the real thing.
YES, with Terry Kass on fire!

Leonid was working to copy the *studio* versions.
But, I’m glad you saw and enjoyed them live.
Great “tribute” band.
And the chick in the striped shirt….not so bad too!
‘either’, not ‘too’.
I kind of like the horn player in the weird plaid suit...
I always liked Leningrad Cowboys with the Red Army Band and Chorus.
I miss music in popular music.
