Michael Holm, owner of Fort Myers Cyclery, said the vehicle appears to be a recumbent bicycle -- a bike in which the rider leans backward -- with an expensive cover.
"I would expect in the excess of $20,000," Holm said.
Ruede said the bike had a blinking red light, but became difficult to see once it was next to his car.
"This is like begging to get hit or run over," he said.

Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Ken Watson said bicycles are allowed on U.S. 41, but he would have stopped the rider to discuss the visibility issue.

nanny stateism.
Looks like a world speed record bicycle.
I sure wouldn’t get on a highway with anything like that.

He did!
Looks like a world speed record bicycle potential road kill!
About 15 years ago, I passed a guy on a recumbent bike with a full faring. On the way back, I saw him on the side of the road with a flat. I stopped and he said he needed a new tube and the he thought he could find one at walmart. The bike was too big to carry on my vehicle, so he left it and we went to WM. We got back and the bike was gone, along with his ham radio and laptop and a bunch of other stuff. He said it cost him $7000 for that setup, and he was on the last leg of his ride across the country. But he was definitely booking. He was going at least 35.
Lol. Yup, that too...
Used to see those rigs all the time in Palo Alto.
There are some real idiot bicyclists out there.
Harris orders new car
+1
Was the rider wearing a mask and fully vaccinated? THOSE are the important questions.
There is a fallacy in your question........ It’s Florida not the formerly American states of NY, CA, OR or WA
That is EASIER to see than the typical bicycle.
It’s insanity. Everything. Including letting bikes on the road with heavy, fast vehicles. Stupid.
Nice of you.
But there is another reason not to take bikes seriously. You can’t lock anything up with it, And even if you did….the thing is too light not to be able to steal the whole thing! That might be what happened…they wanted the small th8nfs couldn’t do that easily, so took the whole thing!
Dumbass, the only things he didn’t bring with him were a tube and a repair kit.
He was an odd character. He was riding across the US in segments. This one was from Atlanta to DC. I’ll never forget his last name was Proudfoot, and whenever someone asked him his name, he would pick up his foot, point at it, and say “like I’m proud of my foot!”.
I wonder if he ever finished his journey.
It’s not a bicycle, it’s a HPV.
