Orlando police have released body cam footage of an officer being attacked Thursday in the area of North John Young Parkway and West Harwood Street.
Advertisement But police say they're still puzzled as to why it happened. They are still determining whether the suspect's attack was intentional or if he was suffering from a mental illness.
"I think there's a lot more questions than answers when it comes to situations like this," Orlando police Chief Orlando Rolon said.
The video shows 33-year-old James Mossetty facing down the officer who was working as a school crossing guard at the intersection.
Orlando police said the incident began when Mossetty banged on an officer's patrol car for no reason. The officer got out of his patrol car and "started interacting with the individual," Rolon said.
The officer tries to use a Taser to get Mossetty down, but he’s able to pull out two different cartridges that are fired at him. Police say pepper spray didn’t work on him either.
"The fight was on," Rolon said.
At one point, you can see Mossetty coming after the officer. Investigators say he repeatedly punched him in the head knocking him to the ground.
Eventually, the backup did arrive and four officers surrounded Mossetty. One of them tackled him, and they all worked together to put him in handcuffs.(snip)
WESH 2 asked Chief Orlando Rolón if he thinks Mossetty was out looking to fight a cop.
"We don’t know what possessed him to do this, but what we can clearly see is that he has a history of getting involved in felony-type situations, to include battery on a law enforcement officer. Again, is he mentally fit to be out there? Is he just someone who likes to get involved in those sort of things?" he said.

Maybe keeping him in jail, and not released over and over again, would help...
Why wasn’t the thug shot? He attacked a cop. Especially since this is the second time.
We shoot rabid dogs!
Send a social worker to talk them down
In my highly educated opnion,
this guy obviously has a screw loose, and he needs to be in a locked facility until he has his behavior under control.
I don’t see it purely as someone who hates all cops, because he wasn’t chanting any slogans or accusations.
Cops cant use guns anymore, doncha know?
It was intentional no matter if he was crazy or on drugs.
Saying other wise does away with any personal responsibility.
The video shows it was he who was attacked. Self defense against the state is legal and appropriate.
Or shoot him. - John O.
He must have gotten himself some of those Rodney King type drugs.
What did the guy do to attract police attention in the first place? Going by the video alone, I see the police approach a rotund dullard for reasons unknown, then pepper spray and jump him when he doesn’t comply immediately, even though he appears too dazed and confused to comprehend. Had he “attacked” an officer before the video starts?
Fentanyl
Well, unless we are to assume the cop left his post as a crossing guard, randomly selected the guy and decided to ruin his day, yeah, the dude messed with a cop and then refused to comply. The result is predictable. Bang on a car, with or without a cop in it, even just a plain old Joe, and see what happens.
And, no, I an not a back the blue freak by any means.
Apparently, cop was doing “cross guard” duty and doofus came up and started banging on the window of the squad.
Doofus has priors including felony assault.
Guessing there is a history of mental issues...
“We don’t know what possessed him to do this”
I have a pretty good idea that something may have been “possessing” him. two tasers and pepper spray would just about do most of us in. When they are seen as being ineffective then I believe sometimes something other than adrenaline is involved.
“14Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. 15Eventually, one of the evil spirits answered them, “Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?” 16Then the man with the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. The attack was so violent that they ran out of the house naked and wounded.…

From watching the news video, it appeared the guy approached the cop and there was a verbal exchange.
We don’t know what was said. If he said “you people suck” that probably isn’t grounds for getting tazed and sprayed.
But if he said something like “I’m gonna f*** you up” or something like that, well, that gets a cop’s attention.
All we saw was the cop saying “Get down on the ground” and the guy says something like “I don’t know you and you don’t know me”.
Most cops don’t start off a conversation, even a bad one with “Get down on the ground.” We don’t know what went down before the video started.
I’m going to start using tasers and pepper spray on myself until I’m immune to them.
Or maybe I should find out what kind of drugs that guy was on?
Actually I don’t want to fight a cop. Maybe I should just order pizza.
“unless we are to assume”
We? You do, in fact, speak for yourself.
The video show the cops attacked the guy and the guy fought back. Then the video shows the cops spewing nonsense that is immediately lapped up.
You assume it was random. My guess it was payback for the previous encounter, as referenced by the spokesman.
not sure what video you saw,
Even the news casts say he was a random man, they did not say he did anything, however the chief said he was a known guy.
I saw a training officer with some newbies trying to show off.
It was clear from the video that the cop attacked him, not the other way around.
Granted he did not comply with “orders”
