The attacks happened in Paraguay, where people have visited local rivers in large numbers during the current heatwave in order to cool down.
The first death of the New Year happened on Sunday when a 22-year-old man was bathing in the Paraguay River.

Note: The last time someone mentioned piranhas on this forum was in 2019.
What do you think about this? Are people stupid for swimming in the river?
Or is this just bad writing because it makes it seem like people were found dead (in some location or another) and then it was discovered to be LAND PIRANHAS???!!!
(Sorry, swimmers!)
Jesus: The fish will likely get away with this, you know.
Me: *dramatically* NATURE! RED IN TOOTH AND CLAW!
JC: Yep.

If this involved beagles, I’d blame Fauci. But perhaps the fish acted alone, so to speak.

Piranha attack? Sounds like a clever cover up of still more vaccine deaths. Haha.

I’ll bet it was the goldfish scientists taught to
drive cars...hence the clean getaway.

Someone should introduce these fish into the Rio Grande.

In addition to the sharks with frickin' laser beams on their heads? I like the way you think.

The piranha fish demonstrates an interesting evolutionary characteristic: It’s a freshwater fish that is VERY bad to eat and its main function is that it rabidly eats everything it finds, except vegetation and other piranhas. (And yet it is not a very big fish; it’s mostly head.)

MythBusters did a show on piranha. IIRC, they actually sat in a giant tub full of them and never got bit. They attack in response to stimulus. If they’re attacked or there’s blood in the water, they’ll go into a frenzy. (Biological) females on their monthly should avoid swimming in the ocean where sharks are known to be found for the same reason.
