My mother graduated from high school several years before WWI. She was the daughter of an ardent feminist, and her high school yearbook (The Brecky) says she is going to devote her life to women suffrage. During the war she started her career as a Hearst reporter. A few years later, the 19th Amendment passed without her help. In her late eighties, she confided to me that she thought the 19th Amendment was a big mistake.
