Jingle bells lyrics include ‘Dashing through the snow, in a one-horse open sleigh
Over the fields we go, laughing all the way
Bells on bob-tail ring, making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing a sleighing song tonight’
It is a song about snow and a sleigh and the bells on the sleigh.
It was written by James Lord Pierpont and published under the title “The One Horse Open Sleigh” in the autumn of 1857.
There were no slaves in New York after 1799. It was a free state. So 150 years ago in NY there were no slaves and it was written about sleighing, and the sleighs had bells.
Does no one do research before knocking off things?

These misguided souls sure do want to discard a lot of happiness. This is just like not allowing "Song of the South" to be played anymore, even though it does not glorify slavery. It merely acknowledges its existence. But it goes beyond that. The stories that Uncle Remus tells are wonderful children's stories that teach right from wrong in addition to being delightfully funny. But, they choose to bury that man's wholesome contribution to society just because he was a slave. Uncle Remus should be celebrated!
(Yes, he was a real man.)
