Preface: I am not looking for medical advice or help in decision making. Just venting and hoping to get an idea of how other folks in my situation are making out or how they are preparing.
So… my job has a strict vaccine mandate that is set to start Jan 4th. Basically, if I don’t load my card into the HR system which collects these, I will be fired from my job on Jan 5th… no severance. My religious exemption, originally approved at first, was ultimately denied, and they are not allowing exemptions for remote workers (like me), nor periodic testing in lieu of an injection. Despite numerous back and forth emails with HR, they are sticking to their guns (or needles) with this directive.
I was at first dead set on not getting it for the same reasons and fears that everyone else has. I was hoping that the various court challenges, etc. would put a pause on it until I found a better job, but that didn’t happen.
I would normally welcome the idea of time off (especially while living in Florida), however, IF i did find a job, I would take a significant cut in pay. Also (and most importantly) personal insurance would be too expensive per month (Thanks Obama). I have some orthopedic issues I need to have addressed in the coming year and cantt afford the premiums or deductibles on an individual Florida Blue plan.
I just moved to Florida (working from my mother’s house, job HQ in NJ) and need to afford buying a condo (housing prices are through the roof). I won’t be able to finance if I don’t have a job, and I worry I wouldn’t be able to afford monthly HOA/condo fees and taxes if I pay cash.
I am between a rock and a hard place. At this point, I am debating just getting the J&J/Janssen one and done, as the risk of side effects (as a mid-40s male) seems the least compared to the mRNA ones, and it’s more like a traditional “vaccine” compared to the gene therapy of the others.
Anyone else gone through or facing a similar situation/decision? How did you/are you managing through it and making ends meet? I am not so much worried about a salary as I am the insurance coverage (once again, thanks Obama!).
Won’t you be able to collect unemployment if you refuse and they fire you?
Do you work entirely remotely and they still insist on you getting jabbed?
Tell them that your doctor told you to wait for the Novavax vaccination.
Then don’t get the vaxx.
What do you do for work? (I’m in a meeting and skimmed your post).
There are plenty of jobs open so here’s some advice. Let them fire you, then pack up and move to America meaning Fla or TX or another state that still preserves and protects the Constitution and the rule of law. DO NOT SUBMIT UNDER ANY CONDITIONS.
The courts are ruling against mandates- and I though that Florida was the one state that rejected mandates for the entire state?
Some companies are doing a “Leave Without Pay” strategy. They just stop ending you paychecks. You’re not fired. You didn’t quit. No severance. No unemployment. You’re just in limbo.
I think it’s incredibly malicious and I would be glad to be gone from such a rotten employer.
” they are not allowing exemptions for remote workers (like me)”
Sounds like you work for retards. Why get the jab if you are so remote?
Individual companies can still have their own mandates
My Son-in-law’s in the same situation. He’s being terminated Jan 7. He has a very high end job in the biomedical field. No one else will hire him without the vax. All his degrees and experience mean nothing. He’s been with his present employer for 16 years and been promoted up the ranks.
What is happening in America is Evil at it’s core.
I really don’t know what he’s going to do.
The unemployment route at least keeps money flowing into the household, small as it may be.
Look around Florida for a class action lawsuit against companies that require a vaccine card, while the matter is still being litigated in court. Especially out of state companies. The national company that I work for is requiring full time masking if not vaccinated but will not prevent us from working.
My wife got the J&J shot in August, in order to see her mother (age 101) in an assisted living center in MN. Ended up coming down with covid, as did I, three weeks later. No signs of covid before the shot ...
I am hoping that the Novavax shot finally gets approved. Can’t imagine why the CDC, Pfizer and Moderna haven’t approved an alternative to the mRNA shots.
If push comes to shove, J&J is your best bet, I think.
Bring $1,000 in cash to a doctor and tell him to shoot it into the garbage
I recommend you contact attorney Jeff Childers (He is in Florida). He is very well versed on Covid and puts out a daily newsletter (Coffee & Covid). Just search for Childers Law Florida. Good luck!
I’m so sorry you are going through this! My wife is in a similar situation, as she works for a local govt run by proggies. When (if?) her day comes, she’s gonna play the race card against them. (My wife is a clone of Michelle Malkin.) You likely don’t have that card to play, but before she exits, she’s going to be sure to pick one target, isolate him, and file suit. Anyway, those aren’t luxuries you likely have, so I hope you get to move on to better opportunities with health care!
I followed up with HR indicating that I needed a decision since it was time to make elections for annual healthcare insurance. If my exemption was approved, I would proceed with my elections and plan to remain working. Otherwise, as an employee with 30 years service and age 65, I would be seeking guidance on retirement as of 12/31/2021. HR responded with acceptance of the exemption. I will remain on the payroll through 12/31/2022.
Generally, no. Unemployment usually is only available for employees who have been laid off. Not fired for cause. Some states may allow for it, but the vast majority do not.
In January you will be three shots behind because a booster mandate is coming. Get fired and ride it out. Do not take the jab is my advice.
He’s in Florida
[The courts are ruling against mandates- and I though that Florida was the one state that rejected mandates for the entire state?]
My company is apparently making it a corporate policy, regardless of govt EOs.
I am a resident of Florida, but my company is in New Jersey. They do not have offices in FL, I am working from home.
