US intelligence says Russia is planning an invasion of Ukraine early next year with up to 175,000 troops

Russia is planning a possible military offensive against Ukraine involving an estimated 175,000 troops that could begin as soon as early 2022, according to a report on Friday.

An unclassified intelligence document, obtained by The Washington Post, showed satellite images of troop and equipment build up around the border with Ukraine.

Photos taken in June around Yelnya, near the northern border between Russia, Ukraine and Belarus, showed empty land. By November 9, five Battalion Tactical Groups (BTGs) were in place, the photos showed.

In 2014, similar scenes were replicated along the Russian-Ukrainian border near Crimea before Russia seized the strategic port on the Black Sea.

'The Russian plans call for a military offensive against Ukraine as soon as early 2022 with a scale of forces twice what we saw this past spring during Russia's snap exercise near Ukraine's borders,' an administration official told the paper.

Yawn. So what if they do? In all seriousness, what does it really, really matter to us?

How about we discuss invading and annexing Canada to save them from their facist government that still bows to an inbred monarchy?

175k troops is not enough to capture Eastern Ukraine.

The report may be bunk, Sleepy Joe says he’ll draw a line, Russia doesn’t invade. Media credits Joe’s line for Russia not invading.

Suspect the Russians will stage a provocation of sorts if they really want war. Very sad and tragic that many young men will die and be maimed for no good reason.
The Russians always felt dating from even before Peter the Great that the Ukraine was a part of the Russian empire. At some point it was almost a historical certainty that they would again force their control. They took Crimea easily enough. Sadly the Ukrainians had twenty five years to establish a credible defense. Seems the opportunity was wasted with corrupt leaders.

Maybe that explains this:
In September 2021, the unemployment rate in Russia stood at 4.3 percent. To compare, in July 2020, 6.3 percent of the workforce aged 15 years and older nationwide were unemployed.

Seems like a reasonable number of troops to ‘help’ The Ukraine figure out how to behave.

And what will they get in exchange? A corrupt, hypocritical administration which doesn’t know what they are doing aside from running the country into the ground and is just about as bad.
