I thought for sure LSU was going to get Dave Aranda. He’s the next hottest coach out there.
Bryant would get a blank check.
If I were Texas, I’d cut my losses with Sarkisian and go all out for Aranda.
I meant 'one of' LSU is 3rd in NFL. It is a very attractive position.
Exactly and few could afford him.
So if Kelly is worth $15 Million, Bryant is worth around $20 to $25 Million a year, plus all benefits and 2 private jets. His salary would be Tax Free to him!
One of my hopes for Napier is that he can bring some of those Louisiana boys to Florida.
Yeah, but “Mama Called”, and I don’t think Bear would have left “Mama”.
Oh, I never begrudge any of these people making as much money as they can. It’s a free market—I hope they all make millions.
My point was more about the process. No university of that size is going to spend a nickel that hasn’t gone through a “process.” I am confident that every nickel they spend will come back dressed up like a dime.
Would I pay a penny more to watch them? Nope. But my alma mater has always been about hockey and the military. Not much money to be made there. Although I have some former general classmates who are paid well in the Contractor business. I feel less generous about that.
I agree with this. I spent many years around D2 and D3 programs. I would see the mandatory study groups. I knew that coach incentives always included a GPA factor.
But the amount of time associated with the programs was simply staggering. They never stopped “practicing.”
I loved Field hockey. I photographed some D2 and D3 national championships. Those women were great athletes and it was a wonderful game.
Honestly, if you have never seen higher level field hockey on a good field, you should. It’s surprisingly fun.
Why would they fire a coach less than 2 years from when he won a national championship?
That sounds like the Premier League. I like that I idea. Can you imagine the carnage if Alabama was “demoted?” That would be making.
I meant that would be amazing.
I would keep the top tier teams from being demoted, it’s just the lower-tier teams that would do the promotion/relegation.
But what’s fun about that, is you would have all of these playoff games during December, and they would be the featured games, so the smaller programs have their day in the sun, it would be much better than those meaningless bowl games. Every game would matter.
Kelly has a “List” too?
Before he stepped down, Phil Fulmer said this:
“I knew we need stability and continuity at Tennessee, and our next football coach needs to be on our sideline for 10 years or more, and I am confident that we will find that coach.”
Out of 130 FBS coaches there were 11 on the job at the same school for 10 years or more. With Kelly leaving it’s down to 10.
LOL, I was really bored one day, so I worked out how all the Divisions and Regions would look.
This is how I arranged all the teams, Regions are basically like the conferences, in that a Region consists of 2 or 3 Divisions.
Note, that I basically brought back The Southwest Conference and Big 8.

LSU’s offer to Kelly is for 10-years “that will take him north of $100 million.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
after the kelly hire, I told my LSU buddy: The LSU board & AD Woodward have raised the expectation bar so high that if Kelly doesn’t win tne NC NEXT YEAR & every other year thereafter he’ll be looking for a job on the west coast too.
That’s another reason I’m thrilled with the Napier hire. I think UF fans will tone down the expectations, but I do believe given time, he will get UF back.
If I was being recruited by a college. I sure would want to know the coach was planning to stick around.
