As an economist, I can't help but marvel at the money the homeowner saved taxpayers over the years.
It costs roughly $40,000 per year to keep one incarcerated whereas each one costs society roughly $250,000 per year in criminal activity if they are NOT in the hoosegow.
So while prison is about a 6 to 1 bargain, putting them down for a dirt nap is an even more lopsided bargain for society.
