Caltrans is on the scene of a rock slide on Highway 1 at Ragged Point in San Luis Obispo County.
The slide has closed off a 40-mile stretch of Highway 1 stretching from just north of Ragged Point Inn to Fullers Point, just south of Deetjen's Big Sur Inn.
"[The rock slide] doesn't look too bad by Big Sur standards," said the Big Sur Chamber of Commerce in an email.

I wonder too.... Beautiful drive
Is this near the place with the $8/gal gasoline?
“Sorry, folks, it’s $12 a gallon until further notice - now, excuse me, I have a rockslide to start...”
I just thought of Ragged Point last night when thinking about all the rain California is getting. ragged Point’s highway area is so prone to mudslides. It’s beautiful there but frightening, too.
Like everything in CA, it’s a beautiful mess.
It’s about 11 miles South. So now it’s probably an 124 miles drive not 11 miles.
Last time I drove the coastal highway, gas was $0.28 per gallon and you could drive a couple of miles without seeing another car...
The Ragged Point Inn is worth a stop to take photos, walk trails, eat a bite.

Looked it up. Saw set of pictures. Nice place, especially if it includes the bed with the lady lying on it.
Somewhere out there, a road grader is buried under tons of mud. The driver was also interred with the road grader in a late 90s mudslide.
Now, I would just have zapped by when I thought it was clear, not suffered through all that time stuck behind her.
No, you cannot enjoy the view if the car in front of you keeps spasmodically hitting the brakes.
“Beautiful drive”. I agree, My wife and I have driven from LA to Frisco twice in the the last few years in my convertible GT Mustang. As pretty as any drive in the world IMHO.
Speaking of Mudslides what is Butt boy doing about this Im sure it is Transportation related
