My 40 year old nephew was born with it. I believe it is genetic.
The level of severity is all over the place, and its effect on the lifespan is also quite widely varied. It’s pretty nasty for some people.

When you consider Nuero-degenrerative diseases; making it into your 60s is a blessing without having to quit.
Think of muscular dystrophy where you are most likely dead by your thirties.
