For me it would be Jim Clark on that list. As he is not well known and he would be the youngest on the list at 66 years old.
Played on Steely Dan's "The Caves of Altamira"
Was thinking of Stan Getz today, and curious as to whether he ever worked with Lew Soloff (trumpet).
What about Candy Dulfer and Katja Rieckermann?
I had the privilege of assisting in the release of a recording by Joe Robinson, tenor sax, who is in Great Britain. “While I’m Waiting” is the CD title. If you ever spot it, let me know. The little label Beezwax is in hybernation, as it were. Joe’s work is worthy of a good listen.
That’s a pretty darn good list. Sure, there are a few left out. Unavoidable. There have been many great sax players!
That might imbalance your orthodontist's work.
One incredible sax player was Junior Walker. (Shot Gun, How Sweet it is, Pucker Up Butter Cup.) He was a fabulist wild reeds man.
Anyone seen Real Saxophonist lately, or has he gone underground?
I’d put Getz at #3 and Cannonball Adderley at #7.
Woody Herman should at least have honorable mention for his swinging soprano sax. Herman’s band also featured the sax standard, “Four Brothers”.
Close call between Coltrane and Parker for me for #1. I lean toward Coltrane because of the spiritual side of his music (both meditative and frenetic). I would also squeeze James Moody, Sonny Fortune and definitely Kenny Garrett into the Top 50. I recognize Sonny Rollins’ stature but he’s never been a favorite of mine. Blessed to have seen some on the list in person including Benny Carter (free outdoor performance in NYC), Charles Lloyd (at Carnegie Hall, MC’d by Bill Cosby) and Sam Rivers (with Dizzy Gillespie).
David Sanborn wasn’t nominated, but his hair got Honorable Mention.
Gone since May.

I looked at all 50 names and didn’t recognize a single one.
Same here, jr high and high school and 1st year of college, and Definitely a Boots Randolph fan.
One hopes that he’s living well.
Disappointed Sil Austin not mentioned.
