In my state, you have a loan, you have full coverage. something doesn’t smell right.
It's been said here in New Mexico that upwards of 40% of drivers have either no insurance, or are under-insured. Even on new cars, they'll get the note, then drop the coverage. Then they'll get a notice from the note-toter that they need to provide proof of insurance. You'd think after doing this once or twice, they'd claim breach of contract for the note, and recover the car, but nope. Hell, I got a letter from the Motor Vehicle Division years ago saying they had no proof of insurance for my registered vehicle. Turns out the insurance company was supposed to report the data but failed to.
Unless it was paid for and she dropped Comprehensive (fire & theft) coverage.

Illinois law requires liability coverage only. It’s lending institutions that require full coverage as a condition of financing your car.
