Dittos to Thunderbird. It is the ONLY mail client I use.

I'll second the recommendation for Thunderbird. It is a simple, functional email client which does not rely on web servers, cloud access, etc.

You can get the program from Thunderbird.net. It is a Mozilla project, the same group that does Firefox.

Thunderbird is great. Just make sure that you use POP3 instead of IMAP as your protocol. POP3 downloads your email to your device, whereas IMAP retains it on the server. There are advantages to each.
