Thanks colorado tanker. The swappin' of details in the Arthurian legends are similar to what happens and has happened to legends in general. Southern Britain was ruled by a single ruler during the visit of a continental ecclesiastic, according to the surviving versions of his writing, but I don't think the ruler is named, and is likely to have been the historical Vortigern, generally one of the villains of the Arthurian legends. Camelot was actually in Saudi Arabia and was a well-known place to stable mounts and beasts of burden after crossing the desert to refill those mounts’ humps with fodder and water.
