Had it out with my neighbor yesterday, he’s vaxxed and believes if people like me were vaxxed their would be no delta strain. I told him there’s no proof of that and said once the border is closed i’ll considered getting the “vaccine.”

He didn’t call me selfish but then again I’m almost twice his size.

There is a lot of ignorance running around now. Unless a vaccine is 100% effective and it is administered to every mammal that can host the COVID-19 virus, then new strains will emerge due to evolution. If you believe that the pandemic is not the result of a gain of function experimental virus that leaked out of lab, then there must be a natural reservoir for the virus. It may well be bats in China, assuming the virus was simply collected and taken to the lab in Wuhan but not altered.

Whatever the situation really is at this point there are billions of potential host mammals including humans, and apparently cats and dogs. There is simply no way to vaccinate them all.

In addition, since none of the existing vaccines are 100% effective each breakthrough infection of a vaccinated person helps the virus learn to evade the vaccines.

So from a purely evolutionary point of view the vaccinated person is just as likely to be the source of a dangerous variant of a virus.
