Why did he wait to evacuate the embassy?
I know Biden asked them not to take the embassy, and warned them there would be a strong and swift response, but nevertheless, I’d imagine the US Embassy has to be one of the top 3 places they will head to first.
I wonder if the Taliban had help from intelligence services, like Russian, China, or Iran, people who remember what the Iranian hostage crises did to President Carter.
I’d read earlier that it was 72 hours to get all the Americans out.

Not if a prolonged crises is the goal. They can make the demands something that strategically can not be accommodated, like elimination of sanctions on Iran.
And Iran can pay the Taliban to keep the prisoners. As can China and Russian.
