The first case of the much-talked-about Lambda variant of Covid-19 was reported by Los Angeles health officials on Thursday. But for all the fanfare, Lambda doesn’t seem to have been much of a match for Delta – yet.
“We’ve only seen one Lambda variant among tests sequenced in our labs, and this was a sample from June,” said L.A. County Director of Public Health Barbara Ferrer. The fact that Lambda was sequenced in June and has not been found since would seem to indicate it’s not spreading rapidly — if at all — in the county which, according to Ferrer, saw the powerful Delta variant account for “99% of all sequences last week.”
Lambda was first identified in Peru in December 2020, according to the World Health Organization. It’s become the dominant strain in South America, spread overseas and been identified as a variant of interest by WHO. Scientists are still trying to understand whether Lambda is more transmissible, but a July study, which has yet to be peer reviewed, indicated Lambda may be able to evade vaccines.
Los Angeles only genomically sequences a small number of positive test samples every week which are flagged by medical experts as possible variants of interest or concern.
But even statewide, the number of Lambda variants seems to be very small. California analyzes a considerably higher number of tests than its largest county — though in July it scrutinized only 5% of all Covid cases identified. As of August 11th 99,260 samples have been sequenced in California. Only 152 Lambda infections were identified, the first possibly as early as 2020, according to CalMatters citing state public health officials.

I hereby call the Lambda variant the Fauci variant. The names of the variants are to important to just give them names from an alphabet! We must give them more importance! They shall be named after famous tyrannical leaders and activists that have a significant place in promoting the destruction of our country through biological weaponry takeover.
Rapid genome sequencing in hospitals to identify potential vaccine-escape SARS-CoV-2 variants
SARS-CoV-2 genome sequencing is embedded in academic and public health laboratories, but whether there are benefits to rapid sequencing in front-line hospital laboratories is unclear.
Italics and bold are mine.
Anyone else disturbed by the desire to keep surveillance restricted to academia and public health labs?
Well, this chyna virus has been over blown from the start, inflated numbers of cases, someone gets hit by a bus has died of kung flu, etc. The american people should be ready to french revolution on some of our leaders...
I thought there was NO specific test for any of them.
The never ending virus. If they reported the seasonal flu deaths and cases every year most people would all of the sudden freak out and call for mandates.
Now the Lambda ... queer !
There are tests to ID the virus and any variants.
Whether we can trust the people who claim to be doing them...
I don’t.
BTW, the use of PCR, a test meant for epidemiological use, as a diagnostic test for CoupFlu proves my point.
But it will be. The dems will see to that.
Lambda, Mu, Nu, Xi...uh oh what happens when they get to the Xi variant?
Not yet…. But…. Once we at MSN begin the drill… it will become even worse than the delta and if necessary we will make the next one, after lambda even worse than that
There is no known test for Delta but there is one for Lambda. Seriously? How low does your IQ have to be to believe this drivel? 🙄
When the Pi Delta Pi variant gets here....let me know.
There isnta test. They have to sequence the whole genome.
Sorta like Ben and Jerry’s flavor of the month. This crap will never end folks. When they run out of the Greek alphabet variant nomenclature, then come the numbers. COVID XXVI.
