When I grew up, all watches were mechanical. The automatic was an ideal I could never afford, before electronic became commonplace.
Dead batteries finally made me find the Seiko automatic, again, and this time I could afford them. Glad they were still around. I expect they may outlive me.
Back in the ‘70’s, a fellow worker was showing off his new $240 Seiko (high price back then)...
I asked him what time is it????
He looked at his watch and said “10:20”...
I looked at my watch and said, “Funny...That’s exactly what my $10 Timex says...”
I have one of these from 50 years ago that I just got a OEM replacement strap for, I see it listed for much more than was paid: I guess I better take care of it.
