What did they expect the Taliban to do give them a kiss

Their playground, their rules.
Sad to say, not many cultures are civil

You mean the Taliban don’t fight in accordance with the Rules of Engagement and Geneva Convention???

I have a hunch that if our withdrawal from Afghanistan was being conducted under Trump, negotiations long before the withdrawal date would have firmly established that Afghan soldiers be treated with respect, and if any incidents like this one happened, there would be severe repercussions.
That’s why you have a skillful negotiator as a President, not a dementia victim.

Perhaps the Afghani soldiers should have tried discussing the root causes of the Taliban’s grievances. Sometimes a good conversation and understanding where each other is coming from can resolve a conflict.
Or, maybe not.

My Uncle recounted similar incidents where he, and other Americans mowed down surrendering Japanese in the Philippines, although they were supposed to be taken as POW’s.

They would have done the same if the tables were turned. In a nutshell this is why this part of the world will remain a shythole forever. Forgiveness is not in their nature. They are killers by choice and it gives them pleasure.
Did the Taliban take a coupe of the heads to play polo with? It’s the national sport there.
