Geez, the breech block on that gun likely weighed more than my car.
The projos weighed 1800lbs. I had an instructor in GM “A” school who was a Vietnam vet. Said he called for naval gun fire support from a BB. Three rounds of 5” for spot and then they let loose with the big boys. Target was a small island in the middle of a river. He said the 16” projos sounded like a freight train and after it was over, the island was gone and the river was wider and faster! Not sure if it was a true story, but it sounded cool to all of young Gunners.
