Recall Gov. Newsom campaign rallies planned for San Diego County

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – With the likely earlier date for the recall election, Reform California is putting the recall Gov. Newsom effort into overdrive.

Carl DeMaio, Chairman of Reform California, joined KUSI’s Jason Austell to discuss updates on the effort to recall Gov. Newsom.

DeMaio mentioned that the likely earlier date for the recall election has cut into their planned campaign time.

The next rally will be held June 21 at 6:30 p.m. at 200 E. Main St., El Cajon.

2022 is a regularly scheduled governor’s election year in California. So that even if Gavin survives this recall, he’s still got to face the voters next year. Point being, he could be badly damaged politically even if he survives the recall, and after the recall, we will alread be in election season for the next general election.

Who is going to replace the Nuisance?

Thus far, only Caitlyn Jenner, former Republican San Diego mayor Kevin Faulconer and former Republican representative Doug Ose have declared their intent to be on the ballot, along with perennial candidate John Cox. Former ambassador to Germany and acting director of national intelligence Richard Grenell, may join the fray, but is deflecting any inquiries and focused on first getting the recall set in stone. Grenell might decide to seek the Senate seat now held by Alex Padilla until 2022. (If Grenell passes on that Senate race, Assemblyman Kevin Kiley, who’s been meeting with Grenell, would probably inherit the MAGA vote.)

No Democrat has publicly declared an interest in replacing Newsom, though former Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and onetime presidential candidate Tom Steyer are circling. No one wants to show their dagger before Caesar reaches the Forum.
