So when is that going to happen?
When are we going to see a truly effective real vaccine?
The Chinese vaccine is what you would call a "real vaccine".
China’s leading vaccines are largely based on inactivated virus technology of long standing, while the Oxford AstraZeneca, Johnson and Johnson, and Sputnik vaccines use non-coronavirus live viral vectors altered to exhibit the coronavirus spike protein. Pfizer and Moderna’s vaccines use the latest technology, messenger RNA.
The effectiveness of A-Z is evident in Israel which has mostly reopened: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/israel/ As the article points out, it's similar to J&J and Sputnik. Russia isn't doing well, but their vaccine roll-out is slow and they have less natural immunity along with eastern Europe.
There's no doubt we need a combination of our natural immunity (40% or more) plus vacination with at least a dose (70% or more, although there is overlap between those groups).
There's no other choice, although everyone should evaluate their own risks of catching and spreading COVID, and not bother with vaccine if they have had COVID.
