Mr. Gatto said that the children of the elites have no advantage over ghetto kids "who have never eaten off a tablecloth". The opposite: elite prep schools, the Groton, Brook, St. Albans, Episcopal High & Andover, produce the idiots who presume to rule us. (Thomas Sowell waxed eloquent about how stupid top experts are.) Point in fact (from Samuel Blumenfeld, "Crimes of the Educators"): John D. Rockefeller Jr. funded John Dewey's experimental Lincoln School. The look-say/whole-word reading taught there was warned about in 1931 by dyslexia expert Dr. Samuel Orton as strongly associated with causing functional brain damage in K-3 kids. Rockefeller's 4 youngest sons, Nelson, Laurance, David & Winthrop, some of the most powerful men, not only in the 20th century, but in all of human history, had dyslexia. They were intellectual cripples who relied on egghead "experts", back again to Thos Sowell, the professional idiots who run our world.
From prep schools to ivy league schools, they coach and upper class mentality. One might call it one of exploitation. I’m sure they would prefer a word like opportunism or entrepreneurialism. Public schools coach people conformity. The middle class mentality is to be reliable but not to stick your neck out.
I think the problem with our public schools is that they reward kids for making the teacher happy.
