Polio: When vaccines and re-emergence were just as daunting as COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic and the distribution of the vaccines that will prevent it have surfaced haunting memories for Americans who lived through an earlier time when the country was swept by a virus that, for so long, appeared to have no cure or way to prevent it.

They were children then. They had friends or classmates who became wheelchair-bound or dragged legs with braces. Some went to hospitals to use iron lungs they needed to breathe. Some never came home.

Now they are older adults. Again, they find themselves in what has been one of the hardest-hit age groups, just as they were as children in the polio era. They are sharing their memories with today's younger people as a lesson of hope for the emergence from COVID-19.

Back then, they were learning how to make vaccines.

This time, it’s malevolence, not ignorance, causing deaths. They know the Covid ‘vaccines’ aren’t safe and are pushing them on the entire world. Meanwhile, they deny access to safe, effective, FDA approved medications in use for decades. Did they do that, too, for polio? Did they deny patients any treatment at all and limit it to ‘waiting for the vaccine’?

My second-oldest brother received the Salk vaccine - and then developed polio (leg braces, and all).

Now, 60 years later, he still walks with a limp, and one leg is shorter than the other.

Regards,

Ban swimming, bathtubs, cars, and food for children. Those kill more children then Covid19 could ever kill if 100% of every child on earth were “infected.” This isn’t the same as polio. The polio vaccine was a weakened version of the virus NOT what they are doing now. Children are not affected by kung flu like the elderly. And now we are going to permanently alter their immune system with an untested gene therapy?

Here’s an interesting take on polio.

Never would have questioned this before. Now I’m not certain, but think it could be possible.

I grew up in Rochester, New York in the 50’s. Never knew anyone who contracted polio, but we did get the polio vaccines. Back then they were a series of three shots. I’ve never minded shots, but the polio vaccines were the worst I’ve ever had. Within a couple of hours, your arm would start aching terribly, and you could barely lift it. I can’t remember how long the side-effect lasted though.

I had polio in 1949. I got a degree in Health Science in 1969. The current Covid shots should not be called a vaccine. The ignorance of the American people is disheartening. Our public schools don’t teach how to think any more. They teach what to think with the goals of Marx, going on at least two generations. Fat dumb and happy won’t save our Republic.
As my friends say.... Buy ammunition. Voting sure doesn’t work any more.

You hit the nail on the head. Two generations of public indoctrination. I do not buy excuses for ignorance on public schools and the damage they cause.

I was stricken with polio in the 1940s. It crippled me by shortening , shrinking , and bowing, my right leg and twisting my right foot so I had trouble walking but would have my right foot hook he back calf of my left leg and cause me to fall. My Grandmother and Mother both rejected the advice of braces and the "Thomas Shoe' for me by our health authorities, and went with the advice of a famous Australian Nurse, and worked on my right leg by pushing pulling and making me ride a scooter with my polio leg doing all the work.

It took about 8 years for me to be normal. My muscular right leg was lengthened mostly by the Tibia bone.-Tom
